He isn't "fodder". Cam is more trade fodder than Reed is right now. My curiosity is what the Rockets think they have in him and whether or not they're willing to be patient. He's the most talented player of his draft class. Much more talented than Castle (smaller worse Amen) and Rob (smaller worse Jalen Green). The others are probably Carrington or Tidjane. My guess is that he's FVV's heir apparent and Amen/Reed will split PG duties when the time comes. My biggest concern with Reed is that he's a boy with amazing talent playing a man's game. I'd say his nuts need to drop but he's on the wrong team. Last night he was forced to play garbage minutes with Whitmore/Willliams/Tate/Landale. If you give Amen or Fred or Jalen that same group to work with they will too suffer. I question the development. Similar with Jabari. I think players who are more assertive regardless of how inefficient they may be work a bit better. Jalen and Sengun have never had issue hoisting shots or committing stupid passes. Reed needs to do that and thats where his personality is in conflict with his offensive abilities.
Reed needs to be able to shoot his way out of his difficulties, but I'm afraid we just can't afford him that opportunity on this team, and I don't know when we'll be able to do so. For that reason if for no other I would certainly consider moving him for the right price if some team wants him. Perhaps to move up in this upcoming draft class, or for a potential lottery pick in 2026, which looks stacked as hell.
Real-world translation: Sheppard did pretty much nothing while playing garbage minutes against the Spurs' scrubs.
I consider someone shooting better to be the better shooter. Thats just the reality we live in. Reed is the better theoretical shooter, but Castle is shooting better than him from 3. Castle also takes a lot more fts Reed averages 0.2 fta Castle averages 3.4 a night. So while Reed has a really good FT, it doesnt really matter cuz he is scared to get fouled.
I have to disagree. The biggest barrier is that he hasn't produced in the minutes he's been given. Ime has shown that he'll reward good play. Amen last year got minutes on a team that was gunning to make the playoffs. If Sheppard had done his part, he'd be playing more and this thread wouldn't have been necessary.
Brooks has a better 3 pt % than steph this season, pretty crazy we have a better shooter then steph on this team, that's just the reality we live in. Curry isn't even one of the 50 best shooters in the nba anymore.
It's not about rotations at all, it's about production. Holiday isn't starter material, but he can hold his own and not looked scared out there.
Well the difference is Brooks takes his 3 pt mostly when he is open while Curry isos to get his 3s. If Curry had someone else isoing and getting him open for C&S like Brooks then Curry would be back to his 45% average. OTH if Brooks has to take his 3s with someone guarding him...well he prob wont even be able to get open so he won't even attempt a shot. Sheppard isnt Curry he doesnt take his 3s off the dribble he gets his 3s assisted like Castle does so just looking at 3 pt% is good for the two of them. This isnt rocket science but again you have insane bias for Reed so I get it.
This. you’d swear Reed is actually playing well, but the team is just so stacked we can’t find any minutes for him even in garbage time, he doesn’t produce anything no rookie in America is getting PT shooting 31% from the field and 27.5% from deep over 4 months into the season
Reed's issue is Reed. He's just not assertive enough. Ime does not like half measures. And Reed (and frankly Jabari as well) is all about half measures right now. I remember an old quote about Nas and Jay-Z saying Nas was losing the rap war to a guy with half his talent but twice his hunger.
That's what I was guessing earlier in the season. He was given meaningful minutes (often in 2nd quarter IIRC) even though he wasn't playing well. I thought it must have been some reason other than development that Ime would give him that kind of PT.
No, he can't hold his own.... and when it comes to production, Reed produced more in 6 minutes than Holiday did in 16.... So maybe you are basing your opinion on feels rather than anything real.
Reed Sheppard 31% FG, 27% from 3 Aaron Holiday 40% FG, 33% from 3 Its funny you always complain about small sample size to justify Reed's bad performance like 40 games isnt enough but then cherry pick ONE GAME to insist Reed is better than Holiday. How much of a clown are you exactly?
Anything works as long as Reed looks good even single game sample size is more important than season average as long as that game Reed played better than Holiday.
If you read the Reed cultist posts here you'd think Reed would be ROY if only Ime Udoka didnt hate him.
I would trade Reed, FVV and Cam for Trae Young without a second thought Young JG Brooks Amen Sengun Bari Tari Tate Adams Jock Williams Holiday would just need to find a decent backup PG with size and C to help the bench
