if what youre saying is true then how come they keep having to re-hire people after firing them?

yes it is. again, no successful business would operate like this.

you think its long overdue to have the richest person in the world single-handedly dismantling our government with zero overisght. and he has billions of dollars worth of conflicts of interest. and he is destroying the agencies that are tasked with regulating his businesses. and giving himself more government contracts. and taking over the FAA and replacing it with his starlink.

yall seem to like the chaos aspect of it. yall like that he is "burning the bureaucracy to the ground" as you said. MGT yesterday said federal employees dont deserve a paycheck and dont deserve their job. again, this is a irresponsible and childish way to be running the country or any business.

sounds like this wasnt a similar situation to what elon is doing then.

Good for you and your wife. Not everyone will be so fortunate. My brother is an engineer and project manager for a NASA contractor. We are not sure if his job will be in jeopardy or not. JSC workers that work directly for NASA have received the email requesting the five things they accomplished last week to justify their job, but my brother is not required to submit this since he works for a contractor.

Everyone at NASA(except Space X employees) are very nervous because of all the uncertainty. There is speculation that contracts will be awarded to Space X because of the connection to Musk.

My brother has spent 30 years building his career, and has advanced far and received many awards, but he is nervous because it can be challenging finding new employment when you are in your mid 50’s.

No one really trusts Trump or Musk to do the right or honorable thing.

Unfortunately, there ii no "more efficient private industry" to put all of these highly trained public servants (who operate at a discount to government contractors!!!!!) into.

Decades of insane & dumb right wing propaganda have deluded people into not realizing that government spending is good and basically is the foundation of all of science in the entire world.

My aunt is in the same situation, though she is older. She is a geneticist/PhD who has done basic lab work on certain genetic eye diseases at UTHSC for decades. They started by doing basic research in the 1990's & have discovered approaches that directly lead to new drugs and treatments that have gone all the way through Phase 3/FDA approval. The lab operates almost entirely on NSF/NIH grants.

Now the lab is basically going to close, because there is no more money coming in. She's just going to retire, rather than keep working or train new geneticists.

You can't replace this work "with AI" - it doesn't research rare genetic eye diseases - The lab will simply close.

It's insane that we have the greatest science & research legacy & apparatus in the history of the world, and millions of highly trained scientists (most of whom were trained at taxpayer expense via previoius NIH/NSF grants) - but we are letting idiot dilettantes like Trump and Elon, who know *literally nothing* about basic science, and who could not find a lab with a GPS - shut the entire establishment down.

Basically a generation of highly trained scientists & engineers is being sent to unemployment to become Baristas and Uber drivers, or being driven away to other countries that actually care about scientific research & progress.

It has been a month but it is still shocking to me how insanely damaging and evil and stupid the Musk/Trump/DOGE regime is - China/Russia/Iran/north korea could not ask for a better way to destroy American hopes & dreams in the short, medium & long term.

A government's job is to SEED technnology to help the overall country out now and in the future.

The GOP has convinced people that these are lazy people.....are you F'ing kidding me, are the police lazy, the fired department, the School teachers, the military? All are government jobs.....

Part of protecting society is keeping it moving.....and that is what our taxes are supposed to do, not LINE billionaires pockets.

Generations of people - not the least, the biggest financial beneficiaries of it like Musk & Bezos - have gone through their entire lifetime without realizing that everything they do and will ever do - LITERALLY EVERYTHING- is made possible by the quadrillions of dollars and person-hours and dead soldiers that went into creating a framework of rule of law, international cooperation, publicly funded research & stable and resilient government services within which "business" flourishes and which has enabled America to be the dominant & exceptional country in the world for the American Century

Basically when Obama said "you didn't build that!" And the GOP freaked out - he was right ! George Washington and Lincoln and FDR and a million million lesser known people, black white men women etc - worked to establish this framework, imperfect as it was and is. And we inherited a tremendous legacy of goodwill and potential that made us the envy of the world.

And they are squandering it -literally throwing it away for nothing! Absolutely nothing, other than a few retweets by a bunch of teenage neo Nazis on Twitter.

Cutting off HIV treatment & vaccine development and Park rangers and IRS agents and all the rest literally does nothing except make us poorer, dumber, and less safe.

It is depraved and disgusting and dangerous and an unforgivable crime .

As a very small example, they fired a guy who for years prior did seasonal work at Yosemite National Park. He was in his probationary period after accepting a permanent job. He was the park's only locksmith and had apprenticed under the previous locksmith for all those years as a seasonal. Locksmithing takes years to master and is more of a sorcerer's guild than a regular job. Now, a park the size of Rhode Island and with more locks than a small city has no locksmith.

Yup. It's always the wealthiest capital holders in our economic system that use the most tax payer funded resources and services. They have always benefited the most from government services.

But Americans have been effectively been brainwashed to believe it's the people receiving SNAP benefits.

That narrative starts with musk and trump so of course maga folks amplify it, as with any office you will have a few knuckleheads, but the majority do things the right way. Add to the fact that 30% of all federal jobs are VETERANS, the whole mud slinging has to stop BUT it won't because trump and musk won't change. It's the same rational for the majority of the gop to do a 180 on russia, one day there are an adversary, and the next day were buddies.................after the gop got the talking points they can amplify it more, hell you have donny jr tweeting we should send weapons to russia and not ukraine. Now if putin does something that trump doesn't like then they will get new talking points on how BAD russia is

    No thanks

    Africa, the infectious continent

    Manmade problem
It’s the manmade aspect of the problem that so perturbs the experts.

“These new pathogens didn’t come in on a tail of a comet,” said Dr. David Heymann, executive director of the World Health Organization’s Program on Communicable Diseases in Geneva, Switzerland. “They’re lurking in animals. But by disrupting nature, we have unleashed them onto ourselves.”

The destruction of the rain forests, for example, may be partly to blame for clusters of killer outbreaks - ranging from feverish malaria to hemorrhagic Ebola.

When trees are cut down, pools of infested water are left exposed in the forest, Heymann said. “What we have done is set up new breeding grounds for mosquitoes that can carry disease such as malaria.”

Has NASA been able to compete with SpaceX on any metrics ? SpaceX tends to do it better, cheaper and faster. Would be nice to know of NASA's recent contributions to society.

I truly feel for your brother if this happens. He's a sharp guy and I'm certain he will find another job. SpaceX, Blue Origin will probably be hiring. Boeing, Lockheed - Martin not so much.

How much longer does your brother intend on working?

Let's talk about the real waste of taxpayer dollars.

    1. Golfing $10.7 million.
    2. Super Bowl $20 million.
    3. Daytona 500 $5 million.

    One month $35.7 million.

    One month! One man!

Imagine how many government workers you can pay for the 35 million a month Trump costs us for his entertainment.

Biden and Obama weren't firing thousands of workers to make up for all the money the government will lose giving the 1% a big tax break. They weren't the ones screaming about waste like the grifting con costing us millions for his entertainment in the same breath. Trump's a grifting hypocrite just looking to make himself and his businesses wealthier, and that pig has the audacity to throw it in people's faces by sharing that tweet of his Gaza fantasy of Gold Trump statues, Trump Tower Gaza, and he and Elon living like Kings. Disgusting as it is, that's Trump's quest.

Don't mix my words. Trump and Musk are liars and hypocrites. TDS is a term for gullible fools like you. Trump Denial Syndrome.

Deny he is a hypocrite, deny he is a criminal, deny he is a rapist, deny he's a grifting con, deny he's a pathological liar, deny he has all the traits of a sociopath/psychopath, deny he tried to steal an election, deny he idolizes dictators, deny that he and Musk aren't looking for ways to build their business empires off the policies they make at home and abroad, deny he is a fraud, deny there isn't something mentally deteriorating with him, deny he's unfit to serve, deny he's a National Security risk, deny he spews propaganda and conspiracy theories, deny he will always put himself first, deny he surrounds himself with white collar criminals, deny he lost the 2020 election, deny he stole highly classified documents and obstructed justice when caught with his hands in the cookie jar, and on and on it goes.

    Again, Trump Denial Syndrome (TDS)
