It's hard to say, the April Jobs report (for March) is going to be catastrophic. But inflation will also remain high. Who knows what that means for rate cuts.

US consumer confidence plummets in February, biggest monthly decline since 2021 - ABC News

U.S. consumer confidence plummeted in February, the biggest monthly decline in more than four years, a business research group said Tuesday, with inflation seemingly stuck and a trade war under President Donald Trump seen by a growing number of Americans as inevitable.

The Conference Board reported that its consumer confidence index sank this month to 98.3 from 105.3 in January. That's far below the expectations of economists, who projected a reading of 103, according to a survey by FactSet.

The seven-point drop was the biggest month-to-month decline since August of 2021.

Markets on Wall Street immediately drooped. The S&P 500 fell 0.7%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 1.7%. The Nasdaq declined 1.4%.

Respondents to the board's survey expressed concern over inflation with a significant increase in mentions of trade and tariffs, the board said.

The Conference Board’s report Tuesday said that the measure of Americans’ short-term expectations for income, business and the job market fell 9.3 points to 72.9. The Conference Board says a reading under 80 can signal a potential recession in the near future.

The proportion of consumers expecting a recession over the next year jumped to a nine-month high, the board said.

Only a fool didn't see this coming. Trump ran for office for 3 main reasons, none of which he dared to tell his cult at his MAGA rallies. It was never really about all the fear mongering topics he spewed. That was just to get their votes. It was never about lifting up the middle class, affordable healthcare, or inflation

    Nope. It was....

To escape prosecution for his criminal acts under the facade and shield of "Election Interference."

To make himself and all his Trump businesses rich off of tax cuts, bribes, and deals for policies at home and abroad, and to feed his narcissistic thirst like never before, with people kissing his feet and bending a knee for positions of power and deals. Who better than to coddle billionaires, right wing media hosts, his defense lawyers, and others willing to do anything for money and power?

To put those butt kissing cowards in positions of power such as AG, and the FBI to enact revenge against anyone and everyone he hates, all media not willing to spread his filthy lies or paint him in a good light, and anyone and everyone not willing to bend the laws for him, and look the other way when abuse, fraud, money laundering, and corruption happens.

the greatest con republicans ever pulled on the American people is having a bunch of poor people believing that they actually care about them

Dan Crenshaw the other day when attacking Tucker Carlson’s stance about spending so much money on Ukraine: “We spend 75-80% of our budget on a welfare state in America - SS, Medicare, and Medicaid. Tucker doesn’t know what he’s talking about, he likes to visit Moscow and talk about how great the grocery stores are over there.”

programs that so many of their constituents depend on is viewed as welfare or a handout…no wonder they always try so hard to cut them or get rid of them

It's also a complete disregard for how discovery and outcomes work. Amidst the DOGE campaign, conservatives keep throwing out lines like "$20 million for bear boner research?!" as if the only outcome of research grants is the original purpose. In reality, funding research of things like gila monsters' intermittent fasting led directly to Ozempic.

Simplistic thought is easily manipulated and we've seen it done via conservative media for almost 40 years because, despite all of the window dressing and rhetorical flourish, most of it boils down to one thing: rich people don't want to pay taxes and they'll say anything to reduce that burden.

Trump keeping his eye on the ball ...

According to a new Department of Agriculture report, egg prices are projected to swell by 41.1% this year due to a bird flu outbreak that continues to devastate flocks. The agency also predicted all food prices would rise 3.4% in 2025.

Are Trump and drug king Elon even aware this is happening?

(Bloomberg) -- No matter what metric you’re looking at, US inflation is moving in the wrong direction again.

Whether it’s a house or a carton of eggs, price growth is once again intensifying across a broad range of indicators

A bird flu outbreak that began before Trump was President is not his fault, obviously. And compare that to the rampant inflation that was experienced under Biden, was was entirely predictable and the result of years worth of discretionary deficit spending. It was a choice -- and the Biden Administration and Democrats chose to raise prices for society. Their financial management ran the country into the debt ditch and as a result, the Fed has to issue trillions of T-bills to finance the debt... which led to a 60% increase in monetary supply... That is almost a direct 1-1 increase in cost of living, as the purchasing power of the dollar in this country declines. Stock market and home values go up under these circumstances, which helps the rich and slams the poor -- Democrats were responsible and even CHOSE this path.

So it's the height of dishonesty to compare a bird flu outbreak to years of sustained reckless spending under Biden. That's why the country isn't buying the types of arguments in this thread.

Unfortunately, it is not just Biden and the Democrats that spend like drunken sailors. The Republicans suffer from the same addiction. Don't forget that the first COVID stimulus checks were sent out with Trump's signature on them. The popular decision is always going to be to increase benefits while lowering taxes. Because of this, to be elected you have to refuse to tackle out of control spending. That's why, even now, the administration is focusing the propaganda about their spending cuts around the preposterous and wasteful.

I was strongly opposed to the stimmy checks, but that was during a crisis during COVID. Biden's spending was done well outside of the COVID window. Democrats took spending levels to obscene levels, and DOGE is here to bring things back to normal... while the Democrats scream and moan.
