So the left here is screaming about Elon invading privacy with doge as cover for their crimes and the lefties in UK (and elsewhere) are insisting on access to everyone’s data all the time.

The UK government’s request to Apple was exactly that - nothing more. Apple ultimately chose to withdraw the security feature rather than provide a backdoor for law enforcement.

Historically, it has been conservatives, not liberals, who have pushed for expanding government power to inspect user data in the name of law enforcement and national security. In the U.S., conservative-backed policies like the Patriot Act, warrantless NSA surveillance, and demands for Apple to unlock devices show a clear pattern of prioritizing government access over privacy.

Likewise, what the U.S. government does regarding user privacy should be evaluated separately from the UK’s actions.

    Let’s not conflate the two.

Everyone should be concerned about the potential violation of their privacy and personal data - SSN, income, and more - in the name of security, efficiency, religion, or whatever justification happens to be convenient.

The UK is kind of a surveilance state, I wouldn't want to live there - at least not in a city - which is why i find Elon's attempts to push us in that direction so upsetting.

The public CCTV coverage they have is absolutely insane.

Though one thing the UK is very good at is papeework and following rules. Random unvetted 25 year old racists don't get to browse the data without filling out every form and getting authorization with a paper trail for the specific data they are accessing.

That was alarming 20 years ago. Now every person has a camera in their pocket and bolted to their front door. Almost every business has cams. Stoplights and freeways have cams. Look at how they caught Luigi Mangione.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs

This and he should just use the paypal info and continue on until this judges decision gets overturned. Does Trump have access to this info by law? If he does then the people that work for him have a right to the info.

This is just an attempt to slowdown the audit, so it will give these federal workers more time to cover their tracks.

So people cant work at the behest of the POTUS? As long as Trump does the firings based on Musk and crews findings then it's legal.

Also for the federal govt workers crying about losing their jobs, did they cry for the 60,000 workers that lost their jobs when Biden shutdown the Keystone Pipeline project? I dont recall anybody feeling empathy for these workers. What goes around comes around and change is in the air, can you feel it?

Trump has this power by law to fire govt employees.

They should've thought about this before trying to sabotage his last presidency. What goes around comes around.

The right wing has cult like behavior like walking around with "pocket constitutions" and still don't have a basic grade school level understanding of the separation of powers laid out in the constitution. What Elon Musk is doing in the Executive branch is something that is Constitutionally illegal even when POTUS does it.

The Constitution clearly lays out that Congress has "power of the purse". Elon Musk nor POTUS has authority to bleed departments and agencies that have already been approved by congress for funding dry. ****ing open up that god damn pocket Constitution in your pocket and read the words in them for once in your life.
