A lot of people on here like to say what others think and feel. They do it to you, and they do it to me. So I am giving you that grace and asking you.

 

You seem like a business person who has money. Do you realize that Trump shutting down the CFPB means banks and credit agencies can screw you over without any sort of consequences? Your bank can freeze your funds, freeze payments or even destroy your credit?

Not me. No. Trump's policies may benefit me or hurt me. But these things won't. They don't impact everyone.

The problem is that the people whom they will impact don't realize they will be impacted by them. People don't understand the banking system and how fees are regulated and what the role of these different agencies are. That's really the problem.

 

Of course you will be impacted by them. Its insane to think you wont be. Any person who has a credit score in America will be impacted by eliminating CFPB. Equifax and the other credit bureau are some of the most corrupt agencies in the world. They regularly add collections and late notices in situations they arent supposed too. They rarely check to verify the debt and leave it up to the consumer to fight against themselves.

No CFPB means you have no tool to fight against bad credit marks on your score. It effects every American and anyone who thinks it wont is delusional .

 

There is no insurance against the banks. Trump is in the process of dismantling the FDIC which means your money in the account wont be insured. The CFPB does more than just deal with banks. It also monitors your credit report to ensure nobody is screwing you over. They are the single most important institution in America that nobody knows about.

Not exactly. CFPB wasn't around in 2007 for instance. I learned a lot about cleaning out my credit and keeping it clean, and my credit is completely locked. Even if someone were to steal my identity, they wouldn't be able to do much because of the way I did it. I don't carry any debt - ever. So that's how you eliminate problems with credit scores.

So no, I won't be impacted. But I am fortunate in that way, it took a lot of hard work to put myself in a situation where I can be shielded from these things. It will suck for a lot of people, but let's be clear, this is not the hill to die on.

 

Utterly delusional. I had a medical equipment company and I cant tell you how many thousands of individuals I helped cuz they had phony collections from another medical company. This is a very common practice in the medical industry where labs/doctors sell off patient debt to collection agencies for copays. The only agency that is out there fighting for americans is the CFPB in this. The CFPB helped over 2 million Americans last year alone with their credit reports. Imagine how high that number would be without having a cop on the beat monitoring the bad guys.

Congrats you dont have any debt but 99% of Americans do and the CFPB is a lifeline for many.

 

Which is why we should care. I don't need something to affect me personally to give a damn about it.

 

These inspectors had four years to cleanup the fraud and chose not to do their jobs or were told not to do their jobs. They're reaping the rewards of their inaction. You say the agency was gutted. I would say an ineffective agency was streamlined and can be rebuilt with better workers. They were a bloated bloated agency to begin with, just like most federal agencies. They deserve the slash and burn
