Annetta Catchings, a Republican from nearby Alexandria, Virginia, who attended the event, was supportive of some of Trump’s policies, including his appointment of Elon Musk as “special government employee” to run the so-called Department of Government Efficiency. In fact, she hopes Trump will be “bold enough” to create a similar type of agency to set up government compensation for descendants of slaves.

“I’m a big supporter of reparations. I really am, and I think that if the Republican Party could find a way to get behind that and not make it be a burdensome cost for the average American,” Catchings said. “Look, they created DOGE, all you have to do is get some creative minds together,” suggesting Trump should take the lead.

    mind numbingly stupid

these are the people that vote Trump…thinking he will give them reparations

Earlier on Thursday, the Associated Press confirmed the IRS would lay off roughly 7,000 probationary workers across the country. The layoffs largely include workers in compliance departments, a source told the Associated Press. Compliance work includes ensuring that taxpayers are abiding by the tax code, filing their returns and paying their taxes, among other duties.

The layoffs are part of the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce the size of the federal workforce through the Department of Government Efficiency by ordering agencies to lay off nearly all probationary employees who have not yet gained civil service protection. They come despite IRS employees involved in the 2025 tax season being told earlier this month that they would not be allowed to accept a buyout offer from the Trump administration until mid-May, after the taxpayer filing deadline.

One of the laid off IRS employees, Robert McCabe, told NBC10 he went into work on Thursday and had issues logging in. He and his coworker sat around and waited for instructions. He then received the layoff letter shortly before 11:30 a.m. McCabe said he had been a supporter of President Trump prior to the layoff.

“You know when he talks about government waste and all that, yes, I’m behind it,” McCabe said. “I believe there is a lot of stuff in the government that needs fixing. And that’s part of the reason why I actually wanted to work for the government, actually. To help change. Help change the things that are wrong in the world, you know? I thought that someone with his business acumen would have come in with a fine-tooth comb and actually found it instead of coming in with a wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason.”

    voted for your own demise…lmao

better get some bootstraps and stop all that complaining

Sometimes Pedro Correa thinks that there is more to all this, some political game that in the end will present a great plan for Venezuelans. It is the only consolation he can offer himself. He cannot fathom that Donald Trump recognized that more than 90% of the Venezuelan community voted for him in the November elections, and that now his first decrees against immigration have been directed precisely against them. “The issue is not that he has attacked immigration in general, but specifically against Venezuelan immigration. If he was grateful for our vote, what is this double talk?” he asks.

Like Correa, many Venezuelans feel as if Trump has bitten the very hand that voted for him at the polls. The Republican promised during his campaign to maintain a policy of “maximum pressure” against Nicolás Maduro, but his new Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, insists that Venezuela is now a safe country, to which all exiles must return (on deportation flights if necessary). “In Venezuela, the conditions for returning have not been met,” Correa says.

The 70-year-old Venezuelan cannot say that he is “regretful” of having voted for the Republican Party, a faction that, he says, aligns with his interests as a Christian and a conservative. But he no longer knows what to think.

ah yes, the rapist and felon who appoints people like Pete Hegseth to positions of power aligns with your “Christian interests”

Is there anything more hypocritical on this earth than a conservative christian?

I was curious about this woman believing she can't be that stupid and have been proven wrong.

Video of confrontation over politics demonstrates how many Americans are on edge

Video of a confrontation over presidential politics at a café in Northern Virginia demonstrates how this election has many Americans on edge.

Annetta Catchings — the Alexandria Republican Committee chair and a former mayoral candidate — said it started when she was having lunch at a café in Old Town with three fellow supporters of former President Donald Trump on Friday. She said she commented that she could not understand how Liz Cheney could support Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

“And I said, you know, as a conservative woman, I could never vote for Kamala, and before I could even go into the specifics of why, Patricia leans over and, so much so, she was just, like, inches away from my face,” Catchings said.

Patti Morrissey, who worked for three decades in national security including a stint at the Pentagon, said the comment about Liz Cheney was a trigger.

“I shouldn’t have, but I said, ‘Maybe because he’s a criminal,’” Morrissey said. “So, it was a little wiseass comment, but I shouldn’t have said that. But it was very strange how quickly, boom, it turned on me. Annetta turned on me and said, ‘Are you a white liberal?’”

Morrissey said she’d also just heard about Trump’s statement that Cheney was a war hawk and should have to face nine guns trained on her face.

“People are really on edge with this election, and so, I acknowledge I’m really on edge with this election,” Morrissey said.

Catchings said her friend started recording. Then Morrissey asked how intelligent women could possibly support Trump.

“It means that you understand when someone is a convicted felon and sex offender and accused of espionage, indicted for espionage,” Morrissey said in the video.

“The only people who every challenge me are white, Democrat women,” Catchings replied.

Eventually, a manager intervened, and Morrissey moved to a different part of the café.

Catchings said she posted the video online to expose the kind of treatment she gets frequently as a Trump supporter.

“I’m just sick and tired of these women feeling like they can get in your face like that, and it needs to be exposed,” she said. “And so, yeah, I’ve shared the video to expose it.”

University of Mary Washington professor Stephen Farnsworth said the confrontation isn’t surprising in this fraught political atmosphere.

“What’s clear is that America is not in a happy place,” he said. “Half of the country is going to be furious once this election is resolved, and many people are already very, very upset in advance of Election Day.”

Morrissey said she’s now receiving phone threats and her daughters are being harassed on social media. She said she should have handled things differently.

“I would apologize to Annetta for interjecting myself into their conversation,” she said.

Farnsworth said he fears political confrontations like that are just a preview of what’s to come after Election Day.

A Virginia couple is hashing out their next steps after the husband, a disabled veteran and information technology technician with a federal agency, was fired Monday, as part of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency’s efforts to shrink the federal workforce.

Because they are concerned about possible retaliation and a likely appeal to the Merit Systems Protection Board, the couple asked WTOP not to use their names for this story.

“I voted for Donald Trump. But this is not what I was expecting,” he said. “We didn’t think they were going to take a chainsaw to a silk rug.”

The man’s wife said they also believed his years of military service would have offered him more protection against DOGE cuts.

Awww, u thought you’d be spared?

lol, if this is real, then these people are so dumb…literally voting for their family members to get whisked away then crying on camera

    “she’s not even a criminal”

They really believed those would be the only ones targeted? That if you’re one of the good ones you’ll be spared? What did they think mass deportations was supposed to mean? The amount of illegal immigrants that commit crime in this country is so minuscule it doesn’t even register as a blip when it comes to overall crime in America, so how would only deporting them lead to a mass deportation?

The voters are already regretting their choice of Trump. His approval rating is dropping fast, and it's not going to get better the way he's running things. Of course, that compulsive lying sociopath will tell his own fairy tale about his ratings.

Gallup, which has tracked the opening approval ratings for American Presidents going back to Dwight Eisenhower, found Trump’s approval rating dipped slightly from 47% in late January to 45% in mid-February. That is 15 points lower than the historical average of all other elected Presidents at this point in their first terms since 1953, according to Gallup’s polling.

    https://time.com/7259417/trump-poll-approval-inflation/

Sorry, MAGA, but Trump is the most unpopular president in 70 years

The findings don't come from some conspiratorially motivated business, but from long-established pollsters.

“Bill Clinton has the next lowest mid-February rating for a newly inaugurated president — which, at 51%, is six points higher than where Trump is now. John Kennedy (72%) and Jimmy Carter (71%) were the highest rated at this point in their presidencies.”

    Ouch!

Six points below Clinton puts Trump’s approval rating at — wait for it — 45%.

Voters oppose the US owning the Gaza Strip, 58% to 18%, the US adding Canada as a state 55% to 26%, and Greenland as a US territory 44% to 30%.
