Funny there isnt even a percentage in my post. But being delusional and personal attacks are what I expect from the Reedsters. You do you.
Haha your previous response was correcting someone who said reed was shooting 30% when he isn’t. Good on you for keeping people honest.
Not sure what your issue is with the truth. But then again you reply to the wrong post so I'm not surprised.
The thing is, he tried, but the league interfered. I remember reading the following exchange in one of the articles JR plagiarized: Rox: “Congratulations on being drafted! Here is your slot contract.” Reed: “But, I am not really worthy of pick 3 in a normal year. Could I have a pick 10-15 contract instead?” Rox: “What? No. You were drafted 3, and this is the slot contract” Reed: “But it might hamstring the team. I’m really not that good.” Rox: “OK, fine. Here’s a smaller contract” League rep: “Absolutely not - rules are rules. You must accept the 3rd pick contract” Both: “fine” So, @rosolian, I feel you but it’s not really Reed’s fault. Dude tried to give it back.
I don't believe the Reed part for a second. If it is true then he did indeed needed to stay in college, because he would be a complete dumbass and needs the education.
My friend, if you had to ask that other guy if he was being sarcastic, or if you think I wasn’t, you need to check your BS-meter! I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that no NBA player has ever told a team on the day of the draft that he deserves a lower contract because he just isn’t very good.
Reed obviously made the right move declaring for the draft when he did. He quickly went from being the 10th top guy, into being the top 3 guy. So he made the smartest move for himself and his financial prospectus. Heck if Reed had stayed in College and he gets exposed with more playing time, he’d be lucky to be a late 1st round pick. What I don’t particularly like about Reed is that he plants himself on the 3 point line, and he doesn’t make an attempt to free himself from the defensive player. So as Amen, Green, or Fred drive the ball to the basket, Reed is almost always defended well enough that he’s not an option. But I agree that he was not NBA ready, which is what many of us had read from so many publications. It’s strange that the one thing most of us thought would be his contribution, shooting, is his biggest weakness thus far. Surprising he can run well with NBA players, he’s at least holding himself respectable with defense; it’s just that atrocious 3 point shooting that has sunk his rookie season
I wouldnt care if Sheppard was shooting 20% from 3. It's irrelevant. The difference between Reed and the names you mentioned is that they offered nothing else on the basketball court. They didn't have vision, couldn't pass and were a lot less athletic. Also couldn't defend. My point is that his shooting will be fine. Ime doesn't care about that right now. He's a process oriented guy. Reed needs to get used to getting to his spots and knowing when to shoot and when not to. His shot is pure. He just needs reps. Reed is a talent. He was the only real talent in the draft. He'll be fine.
You arent Ime though so why if you don't care Ime also doesnt care? As a coach who wants to win games I would assume he would want his 3 pt shooters to shoot above 20%. Just a guess. Considering Sheppard played 30 mins when he scored 16 pts I'm guessing Ime cares about his scoring output. Sheppard is only averaging 1.1 ast in 13 mins I wouldnt call a guy like that as having vision. He only gets 1.7 reb and routinely gets blown by doesnt seem that athletic to me besides his vertical. That bolded part is the height of copium I dont know what to say lol.
People are talking about expectation for him when he was drafted at 3. He raised expectations a lot after Vegas. Right after the draft I think people generally expected he'd get some minutes as a back-up combo guard as the 9th-10th guy in the rotation, knock down some 3's, and show signs but take some times in terms of developing in terms of running the point and defensively. If he was shooting ~38% from 3 he'd probably have taken ~200 or so of Holiday's minutes and would be in line with the general expectations for him after the draft. Everything else besides shooting is about what I expected right after the draft or maybe even slightly better and I was really high on him as a prospect. The shooting is way worse than I expected. But we're still talking about 99 total attempts and he wouldn't be the first guy to struggle with the longer 3pt line in his rookie year who figures it out later. There's no guarantee. As many have noted, his volume at UK was low so maybe that was the aberration and this, or somewhere between this and what he did at UK, is the real Sheppard.
From that same article: Unlike Houston's previous three prospects, who were taken within the top five of their respective drafts, Stone acknowledges that Sheppard may not play significant minutes as a rookie. While coach Ime Udoka would ultimately make the decision, Stone believes Sheppard's first-year development would benefit from learning the game from afar. He even hinted at the idea of having Sheppard spend time with the Rockets G League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Stone took Reed thinking he might not even play much this season. Nothing revisionist about it.
regardless of what Stone might’ve said at the time, Reed’s subpar play is probably surprising even the most ardent of skeptics. 31% from the field? 27% from deep? 10 free throw attempts on the season? This level of play is at an all-time sh*tty level even for a rookie
It’s absolutely shitty and absolutely below expectations. The question is whether that dooms him to being a bust. Personally I think not - I suspect an equivalent to the yips in baseball. His form is just too good and his performance at other levels (including g-league) too strong to believe this is who he is. But there is no way it is fixed before the summer … like Altuve a few years back with the yips, then he came back in the next spring and was fine. The FTs are the bigger issue frankly. He just isn’t even trying to drive and draw contact. Again possibly doing what he is told or what is comfortable with, but whether or not to drive hard is simply a choice - one I wish he was making. I’ve written him off for this year but am really interested to see how he looks year. His theoretical archetype as a backup PG with a deadly shot would be so, so valuable for this team. And i think the gap to that archetype is 90% mental. Hopefully a mental reset in the offseason will help.
He said Reed might not play significant minutes and not that he couldnt contribute cuz he is a scrub. Again his statements were he can shoot and he can pass thats why he got drafted. You high AF if you think Stone expected 1.1 ast and 27% from 3 and 41% TS and only 10 fts in 40 games.
