I don't know if it's that, but it is a sense of a lack of realism, and pragmatism that exist with this portion of Americans.

I try to listen to the Thom Hartman program when I can, and the callers on that program are really telling. I would say 9/10ths of the callers are older Bernie supporters, and almost every single one of the callers will say something along the lines of-

"What we really should do is ... X".... and X is usually something along the lines of single payer, or some sort of pie and the sky idea that is a nice to have benefit.... that would NEVER get passed as a bill. There's a lack of reality as to the current climate, and what actually has to happen to get these nice things passed into law.

While in the meantime the house is burning down, and we are staring down the edge of an autocracy that is one Supreme Court decision away from having complete control of our lives for generations to come. I'm not being hyperbolic here with TDS when I say that as long as Trump is alive, there is no way in hell he's leaving regardless of what happens in an election in 2028. You just aren't paying attention if you think this man is just going to leave, and you are naive if you think Democrats in Congress if they JUST MESSAGED BETTER have any power to stop him.

The power to curtail what is happening in the White House right now has to be handled on the streets in a groundswell that makes it untenable for those in the NEW DEEP STATE to do much of anything because things are so tense on the ground with the US citizens.

So yeah Bernie is right as usual, but no his supporters.. don't expect them to be the catalyst for results. It'll have to happen with a much broader part of the population.... namely YOUNG PEOPLE.

Rather I'd say leftist desires are "far against the grain of the current hierarchical status quo making the desires near impossible to successfully advocate for due to the thumb of the corporate media ecosystem suppressing those ideas".

Our media, our institutions etc are owned by capital owners. Of course they will press their things on the scales when it comes to making sure leftist narratives don't hold ground
