The Republicans were an absolute mess and that is how Trump won the nomination the first time. Then, as an incumbent in the middle of a national disaster he lost….. now two impeachments later … he is President again with a majority in Congress, Senate and the Supreme Court.

We saw the “shocks” and problems that emerged from COVID to the economy and how institutions are viewed more negatively now …. There will be major shocks and consequences from Trump firing seasoned and capable apolitical bureaucrats, removing safe guards in the Constitution, recklessly allowing access to information that is top secret… alienating US allies and starting a multi front trade war.

There is at a least going to be a lot of apprehension in financial circles and that will negatively impact the economy… and when it does, assuming open elections, Trump acolytes will be voted out of office IF Democrats in public office grow a spine. So yes, in as little as two years Congress will matter and can be no longer Republican.

 

It has to be. I mean he talks about stupid stuff like Hunter doing drugs and being with prostitutes. Doesn't he realize that's President Trump and Trump Jr?

He should be more concerned that Trump is plotting with his billionaire friends to make them all oligarchs, at the cost of the rest of America, or that our President is bending a knee and praising the Dictators and Authoritarians of the world now and treating our Western Allies as the bad guys.

 

Sure, the House could be in play in 2026. But that's not yet. Deb's consternation was that congressmen would stand around while our democracy fails. If that happens, it'll happen before the 2026 elections. Maybe if our fortunes tank badly -- pretty speculative -- Republican congressmen will revolt before then. But barring that, I'm saying the heavy lifting today is with NGOs, the states, lawyers and courts. The 119th Congress won't do much to help. Not saying not to work on positive outcomes from the 2026 elections, but that's for later. It is the other democratic institutions we need to put our hope in right now.

 

Sadly, people are stupid enough to believe this.

It amazes me how some on here seem to believe that we are better as a country if we are governed like the Dictators, Oligarchs, and Authoritarians of the world Trump idolizes. It amazes me that people prefer us ally with those type regimes, where corruption runs rampant, and torture, police brutality, or assassinations are imposed at will by the leaders who run them.

How can people prefer we ally with regimes that spit on Democratic values and human rights at the blink of an eye? I don't want to live under governments like that? Saudi Arabia? No thank you, especially as a non-muslin or woman. North Korea? Absolutely not. Russia? Absolutely not. Saudi Arabia might not be as corrupt as North Korea or Russia but they are all nothing like us, or any other Western world countries that fight for human rights and have true Democracies.

Trump pretends to support free press and free speech, yet we know what happens in countries he prefers to ally with when most media is controlled or owned by the government or its leader and filled with propaganda and lies. He himself is a spewer of propaganda and lies, and he and his sidekick spread it through their own personally owned media sites. All news not Trump approved is fake news. Do you support siding with countries where the leader demands that his truth is the only truth, and everyone else must refrain from any objections to the words spoken by him as false, or untrue, or be arrested, tortured, or assassinated? You side with them over true Democracies in Western Europe? Do you agree with leaving NATO to please the leaders who hate true Democracies? Leaders with so much greed and power, and will do anything to get it?
