That would be an interesting signing, he was playing so well before the injury. Cut Mason, move Tytus back to RT, Fisher to swing tackle. LT Tunsil, RG Scruggs, C Patterson, RG Fries, RT Howard I’d then take the best WR or DT with the 1st and 2nd picks. Take the best available OIL with the 3rd. We really need a premium addition at WR and DT. If we use free agency to fix the guard position and for overall depth, I wouldn’t put it past the Texans to trade up in the first round to get their guy using next year’s first + other picks. I figure the highest pick in the first round after a trade would be DT (dream: Mason Graham or Walter Nolan) unless Stroud really wants him Emeka Egbuka. If we could pull of Walter Nolan and Matthew Golden…
Not surprised by this. As a fantasy owner, he was phenomenal for the last four seasons, but this year, he couldn't make a clutch kick to save his life, missing numerous 30-40 yarders. I remember cutting him midseason, and he remained a free agent for the rest of the year.
He's getting $26MM/year, yes - but, also, having his right to negotiate a longer, more lucrative deal taken from him. We need to stop villainizing athletes who are exercising their rights to maximize their earning potential. Other than the amount, of course, it is no different than how you or I would approach our own compensation. If you had the choice of a 20% salary bump but it was only guaranteed for one-year or the right to negotiate with another organization who was willing to pay you a sum that was guaranteed for ~5 years and far exceeds the one-year salary bump... Literally no one - not a single soul - would choose the former. It doesn't matter that $26MM is a lot of money *to you*. What matters is that, to Tee Higgins, it's a lot less than, say, $130MM, or whatever a longer-term deal would look like. And with age and injury a gigantic concern, his window closes more every year. It's collectively-bargained so it is what it is, and I don't blame the Bengals at all for also exercising their right. But if I were Tee Higgins, or Tee Higgin's mom - yeah, I'd be upset, too - especially considering they've now done this two years in a row. Again, fully their right - but Higgins has lost two prime years where he could've cashed in big time.
I'm not mad at Tee Higgins and his mom. He doesn't want to play on a franchise tag two years in a row. He knows he can get $30M+ and the Bengals aren't allowing him to get it. He plays on the franchise and gets hurt then that'll suck being that this is likely the biggest contract he will sign.
