I agree. Of course, if Harris plays the whole year it is better. Our starting secondary is probably our best unit, but has depth issues. Our DT's played great last year, but I'm not sure any of them are signed. We have lack of depth all over our roster, but Caserio has been really great at finding veteran journeyman on short term contracts.
I was looking for something like use Jeanty in the slot with HUGE YAC potential; use Milroe as the motion back (and emergency QB); then special uses for Royals and Ferguson by a TE savant OC.
While I agree, would you want to tempt fate by selecting a OT or OC or even an OG from the wrong side? Versatility is great ONLY if you are competent at the other positions. Otherwise you are NOT truly versatile. You're just playing someone out of position.
Ok. I didn't intend to be a jackass. I was just trying to be funny. Sorry. I think we have bigger needs. Our OL was ranked #31 in the league by PFF. CJ was constantly running for his life and took a physical beating and played injured as a result. Some of our problems might be rectified by our new OC. However, I believe that we lack talent in the IOL which MUST be addressed. As well, Stephon Diggs is a FA and we don't know if and when Tank Dell can return and so that means that we are potentially down TWO starting WR's. It's possible that those shortcomings will be addressed in FA. However, I am confident that we can at least partially address them through the draft. We'll see.
That's one reason that I'm really high on Donovan Jackson. He played guard at Ohio State for 3+ seasons at Ohio State but then switched to LT after their starter was lost early in the 24' season. I don’t know that he can play tackle in the league but it's very possible. But, he can for sure be a great left guard for us on day one. CJ and Mixon would both be elated to have him.
This year's draft has a lot of highly touted DT. I believe it's possible that we use our first pick on one. Tyleik Williams is a guy that would probably go higher in other years but might be available to us at #25. He's a difference maker and may very well be too good to pass on.
I was looking at Spotrac on the DT Position for the Texans. We have Autry and Settle signed as your starters. Edwards, Hinisch and Fatukasi are not under contract. Which is not good at all. We'll see what happens in Free Agency. Demeco likes to play fast so I'm sure lineman like Nolen, Sanders, and Robinson will be highly coveted.
You don't think Deon Walker should be an option? A disruptor in the middle, some one who would require double teams.
Just between us, I was watching highlights of Simmons (71), their left tackle, but (67), their LG caught my eye. Any chance this is Jackson's number?
I had to Google their numbers. Jackson was #74. #67 replaced Jackson at LG. One site currently projects him as a 6th round pick in the 26' draft.
I see Deon Walker as a rotational player who comes in only under certain situations. Deon takes a lot of plays off and wears down fast and this has been frustrating for coaches.
I must add that drafting is still a bit of a crapshoot. You just never really know. A lot of guys bust.
Thanks. It looked to me like he was cleaning up behind Simmons a bit keeping the pocket clean. It could be the design or it could be good pocket awareness.
Another DT to keep an eye on is Darius Alexander. New Texans Defensive line coach Frank Okam coached Darius at Toledo. I can see the Texans using a late round draft pick on Darius.
24 hours til the Diggs deadline and no reporter has a buzz on it. Can't really use the draft simulators without knowing if he is bye bye or we're extending him.
