I've got a long barrel, no choke, pump 12 ga that with 00 shot will reach out and touch a pig at about 40 yards, it ruins their day. That and the open sight, lever action, 30-30 are my go-to ranch guns.
We give 18 year olds who drink to blackout levels at least once a week assault rifles. Handling firearms is an easy thing to do. Most firearm safety revolves the mental aspect of understanding how lethal the item in your hand is and respecting that. The technical handling of firearms is very simple and when you put pride in something to easy you set low standards for your human potential.
Hence the part about "mental aspect" of respecting how lethal the item that you are holding is. I figure that respecting the lethality of the item in your hand and therefore paying attention to your surroundings and where you are pointing your firearm involves empathy skills and we have a society now that villainizes empathy.
I don't want to be too alarmist - people have lives to live but if you're thinking "Trump will be unpopular again soon & the Dems will stumble their way into a house majority and regular programming will resume" that's about equal probability IMO to the competitive autocracy Fourth Reich that Musk & most of the DOGE wackos want. Much easier to stop this stuff earlier with collective action (which is hard) than later with your 12 gauge (very harder)
The same way all collective action happens, individual people ask what they can do to stop this, they see, more join. This happens around the world today (Georgia eg) & happens here in the not so distant past (BLM, occupy) Like whatever I stood in the rain next to a Tesla dealership yesterday in a very hastily organized national protest. From the honking there was a lot of support. Guys pulling out of the dealership were saying they were sorry they bought the car People are planning to do the same thing next Saturday. Does it help solidify Tesla as a totally toxic brand and crush it's overvalued stock price? I hope so. It is uniquely vulnerable in this regard Is it enough? Nope. But one thing the business community has shown is that it is absolutely amoral when it comes to possible economic harm so strikes & boycotts should be part of how we get through this. Anyway that's just one small story - big movements all start very small (look at the Groyper neo nazis for example) with small scale acts that build. Cause like I said, Chuck Schumer & Hakeem Jeffries can't wave a magic wand to stop this
