Jalen's probably our worst starter. It's probably him our Dillon for that honor. He's not our 14th worst player, but I think he's easily replaceable and our team would be better for it. For example, FVV, Amen, Dillon, Jabari, Sengun is better than our current team. I think FVV, Cam, Amen, Jabari, Sengun might be better as well. A SG that can shoot would makes us better than we are now, possibly much better. I know Amen can't shoot, that's the problem with him replacing Jalen in the above. Maybe FVV, a SG that can shoot, Amen Jabari, Sengun.
It always impresses me that despite how inconsistent his offensive production is, his TS% is somehow consistently magnetized to 54%. In mid January he was up to 56% and I thought maybe this was the year he breaks free and actually improves it only for him to slump enough to get right back to the magic number. When it does fall back to a lower number, you can at least always have confidence that a peak Jalen stretch is on the horizon. I've felt the same way about him for a while. Once the expectations of being a leading scorer comes off him, he'll have a successful career as a supporting scorer on teams that can tolerate his random ups and downs.
Jalen is the only perimeter player we have that can get his own shot and that demands a double team. Just him being on the court creates space and opportunity for others. FVV is a better shooter, Amen is a better all - around, Jabari plays better defense but without Jalen their offense would drop drastically. Teams trapped and double him, they game plan for him. The Rockets have proven they can win w/o Sengun, Jabari, Dillon, etc but NOT Jalen.
Rockets have a 114 offensive rating with jalen on the court and a 114.8 with him off the court. Idk how you can say it would drop drastically when it.....doesn't.
LOL. How do you know we cannot win without Jalen when he has not missed a game since Udoka took over? Getting double teamed is good only if he knows how to use it to create for his teammates. I'd be happy if his apg number rose to around 5.0. 3.0 is just too low for a high usage guy like him.
I know your mind probably can't conceive NOR comprehend this but have you ever thought that since Jalen is a STARTER, the other team's best defender is off the court the same time he is? Since the other team's best defenders are assigned to him. For instance, when they play Minn, their BEST DEFENDER, Jayden Daniels, is assigned to Jalen and so is every other team's best defenders. If Jayden Daniels or another team's best defender was assigned to FVV, Dillon, Amen or someone else, how would it impact their scoring. But at the same time, Jalen is the Rockets leading score
Jayden Daniels plays QB idk what he has to do with anything, but he had a great season. FVV starts, yet our offense drops by 5.2 when he sits. Sengun starts, our offense drops by 4.1 when he sits. Do you think there's ANY chance that the numbers and data aren't ALL wrong? Maybe, just maybe, there's not some grand conspiracy by math to make jalen look bad?
You do know a lot of offense drop off has a lot to do w/substitutions as a whole, not just one particular player. When Jalen is on the court in the 2nd Qtr, he's on the court with the bench unit. That's why I don't put a lot into the statics you steer towards your bias analysis
The reason you don’t put any value into stats or data or math is because it hurts your argument, that’s all. If the data showed jalen favorably you would use it plenty.
One thing about Mobley though, his body has filled out great, his Offense also looks much better. As a big man that is great development, he only had 1 down year under JBB.
The only stat that matters is the "W" and "L", no matter how you get the "W" that's all that matters. You mean to tell me if the Rockets won a Championship but Sengun or Green were inefficient while doing so, any sensible Rockets fan would have an issue with it? You can win and be inefficient, because it's so many different aspects of a basketball game besides SHOOTING.
Idk, i think shooting is pretty important. We’re not winning anything if alpi and jalen continue to be garbage efficiency wise. More disappointed in sengun this season because the expectations for him are so much higher though.
Exactly, this is why I've been pushing an experienced scorer at SF or PF. The opposing teams best wing defender (mostly a SF) guards Jalen Green. The height and length giving Jalen trouble. Plus second tier defenders to greet him in the paint.
I have been saying the same thing, they need another perimeter scorer. Similar to when the Rockets had T-Mac, because of the lack of an additional perimeter threat in Battier, other teams could just key on T-Mac.
I stopped debating with folks who mind are made up about JG, they rarely watch games, they don’t use common senses they hide behind stats without considering what factors can swing those stats
Why do so many people think it's so insane to change your opinion on things as time goes on and you get more information? Like i thought Jalen was the best prospect in that draft, wanted him over cade/mobley, thought he was gonna be a superstar. After his rookie year my opinion didn't change much and i wouldn't have traded him for more than 10ish guys in the league. But after a poor 2nd season and really poor 3rd season, wouldn't it be insane for me to not adjust my view?
It depends on all the factors, not just the stats. Same reason you're always confused: there are things other than stats and you're the one guy who doesn't seem to think so therefore your opinion is always going to put you in a confused position because you're not even dealing with the same world. You're playing an entirely different version of the NBA than statisticians and fans alike. If stats don't differentiate people and development is common, then even 2 people with identical stats will be differentiated in their projection for example by work ethic. One will outpace the other for no reason than the stats can indicate. This is missing from your analysis (humans).
