Don't overthink it. Americans are pretty flipping dumb. It's not like he was hiding any of this. He was awful on the campaign trail, and most of time was ranting incoherent garble. They wanted this, and they are more than happy to hurt themselves because their lives are that boring that "owning the libs" is the only thing in their lives that makes them feel better about their miserable lives. As Americans we are spoiled. We have everything, and feel entitled. When boredom sets in, it's always bad news. Just look at what happens in the summertime with bored spoil rich kids in the suburbs.... they get in trouble doing stupid crap. That's the perfect analogy for our society in 2025.
