That fumble by Kermit the Fraud and not getting a flag for an obvious face mask by Jalen Carter had me cheering like a swiftie.
They were saying this on the radio too. this is false. They did throw a flag. But the ball was already out of his hands, so it was ruled as a 15 yard penalty after the play. Eagles got penalized but still retained possession. *ETA - My bad I looked back and apparently was an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. I guess if they had called roughing the turnover wouldn’t have counted.
I'm very curious how possession would be decided had they flagged Jalen Carter on that. I am pretty sure the ball was already loose when Jalen made contact, so would that be just an illegal hands to the face penalty but Philly would retain possession? Or does the ball being loose not matter, and would it be considered roughing and give the Chiefs a first down?
Since the penalty was after the fumble the Eagles recovered and retained possession, but were penalized 15 yds from the spot where the fumble was recovered.
It wasn't roughing the passer because the ball was free. It was a personal foul unnecessary roughness penalty and as you said the recovering team retained possession of the ball and was penalized 15 yds from the spot of the recovery.
I looked up the play by play and they called unsportsmanlike conduct, not unnecessary roughing. As another pointed out how would that affect possession? The ball was already loose.
That was because the DL dunked the ball over the goalpost. That was the unsportsmanlike penalty. At least that was the explanation.
