They made a huge impact on me as a teen and it wasn't even my kind of genre. Their sound hooked me in. That gotta count for something. Why do some hate them? Is it cause they're fat? Or one of them is.

Their first album had some magic to it -- they could never recapture that sound.

Crash burn is one of the sickest harmonica solos ever.

I still have plenty of their songs on my play list

Yes. Every song had a harmonica.

I always lumped Blues Traveller and Spin Doctors together. Not the same, but coming from the same place.

The music industry from about 1988-1992 was kind of aimless and thrashing about until Grunge (and the subsequent alternative rock genre) fully took over.

I think they kind of owe that period for the fact that they got promotion from a label. I don't think they would have gotten a chance at label promotion if they came along a few years before or after.

The first time I heard this song I was finishing up a day of snowboarding in Steamboat and they were blasting it through loudspeakers at the base -- all those hippies were going nuts.

Otto said it best - they were one of those numerous late ‘80s/early ‘90s college bands that had at least 1 big hit but not much else (Sister Hazel, Counting Crows, Spin Doctors, Toad the Wet Sprocket, etc).

Fat guys and harmonicas are one of those pure, perfect combinations in the universe.

They had a pretty massive following on the jamband circuit, unlilke the others you mentioned. That's what got them label-interest.

But whatever, their best song of mine is an earlier one:

They did indeed put on a pretty awesome live show

The combat vest full of harmonicas went pretty hard.

My ol' hippie cousin has a denim "combat vest" for his 8 harmonicas...he says "this one is a G, this one is an F" etc....

I've asked him a couple of times "how can you tell?"
