There is always fraud and corruption (part of human nature), and nearly everyone is against them (those who benefit from them probably aren't). How do you prevent fraud and corruption? Transparency or lack of transparency? Checks and balances or concentrated power? Oversight or no oversight? Independent inspection or no independent inspection? ...
They are not saying any part will survive - also once you bring back the works and stop the funding, you can't just turn it back on. If you ever run a business you know that if you fire all your employees they aren't just sitting around waiting for you to bring them back. More concerning that USAID is the attempt to dismantle the FBI and CIA. Taking apart the pieces that country Russia and China is just stupid. Trump/Musk better be getting paid good money to do that.

this is a false statement. Rubio has repeatedly stated that specific, direct-aid-to-recipient programs shall remain under the Dept of State. And even the Project 2025 game plan says as much.
I am referring to the fact that they said no part of USAID will survive. So moving parts to the state department...sure...but why? Why not just move USAID under the state dept?
maybe I misunderstood . . . but they have said they are moving USAID to the State Dept. That is the plan.
OK. But I heard they were killing all of USAID - but who knows so many contradictory statements and changes comes every moment from this Admin already.
somewhere else I posted a PBS expose of USAID funding from several years ago, only 10% of the USAID budget ended up as direct aid. The other 90% was distributed to (mostly Washington-based) NGOs with "international" in their names. My sense is they are trying to get rid of as much of that 90% padding and bring the proportion of direct aid up closer to 50% or more of the total foreign aid budget. Either way they have their work cut out for them. close to home, our institution has perhaps a dozen researchers on USAID soft money. With the spending freeze on USAID funds, those folks are preparing to be laid off and/or let go. There are certainly a lot of ripple effects with this kind of downsizing.

You can't just pause a logistics network.
