We are/were the high bidder. We upped the bid. And he STILL isn't signing? This is getting distasteful.
I'm okay with them letting him walk at this point. I'd love to have him back, but not if this drags on much longer. Enough is enough.
I have no problem with Alex trying to get as much as he can. Despite the extension, he has made Crane and the Astros WAY more in value than he has collected. I don't want the Astros to bid against themselves, but I don't think they are. If it goes to the end of the month and he resigns- cool. Aa long as he doesn't cost the Astros another player they miss out on.
If anybody is looking for an example of something a piece of **** types on a message board, there’s a good one.
No, I won't have my comments be twisted by known haters. I brought up a third party comment without even naming it -- but the haters assumed the worst. Not going to play their game -- sorry! GOOD DAY
Yes, I am a “known hater” of dumbass mother****ers who post anti-Semitic **** on message boards. You are so ****ing stupid you thought you could go back and edit out your ****up and didn’t realize your comment had already been immortalized in the replies. So you’re not just a piece of ****, you’re a really stupid piece of ****. Please **** off forever.
Detroit and/or Toronto are supposedly offering more money. The Astros just upped their offer, meaning all the people making your argument for the last month were already wrong once if true ("this is as much as he'll get! he's an idiot for not signing"). Bregman's loyalty is and should be to himself while he's a free agent. Same as the Astros should be to themselves. Everything that can be said about Bregman can be said about the Astros. Astros aren't raising their offer. Bregman isn't lowering his price. Astros have a value in mind and won't go above it. Bregman has a value in mind and won't go below it. How much pride can Bregman have? How much pride can the Astros have? Bregman should hurry up and accept the Astros offer instead of dragging this out. The Astros should hurry up and accept Bregman's price instead of dragging this out. Maybe they'll meet in the middle, maybe they won't. No one's a good guy or bad guy in this - it's how free agency works. People here would be awful negotiators.
Playing hard ball on either side is fine as long as both parties have a short-term memory about it once signed.
Yep. I would’ve definitely taken the 6/156. I know I would’ve. And now everyone would be laughing at my pauper status. I just love the Astros.
Alex is just using his FA freedom to his best advantage. He does not deserve any hate. Hopefully he returns to the Astros. I don't care what the contract ends up being unless it extends to his age 40+ seasons(s) Obviously the less the Astros spend the more they will spend elsewhere, but using it on Bregman is likely a better investment than most of the other guys it would go to instead. It's not like the Astros are even considering any star FA that will command a top tier offer anytime soon. If this wasn't an Astros icon, they wouldn't even he here. Any FA that wants more than 5 years or $125M will GUARANTEED go elsewhere so why have money to spend?
At this point, if I'm the Astros I know what I have on the table is extremely fair. He either wants to come back here or he doesn't. I would tell Boras to tell your client the offer is on the table (as is) until Monday morning (10am EST). If it isn't accepted, we wish you all the best, but we're pulling the offer. We've kept the offer on the table even after trading for Paredes and signing Walker. We want players who want to play for this organization. Not only is the offer extremely fair, but it's also the highest we've ever given in the history of the franchise and it's also longest contract that Jim Crane has ever extended. That includes Correa, Springer, JV, and even his good friend Altuve. At this juncture he either wants to play in Houston and if not we wish him well in Detroit, Toronto, Chicago or wherever he decides to call home. We understand he's earned the right to explore the market in FA. He's had over two months to do this. He should know what he has here in Houston. We're not going to beg him to stay here. We've dealt with you extremely fair and have been very patient. However at some point a decision needs to be made if we're going to continue this relationship. That time is Monday morning at 10 EST.
With Spring Training coming... Bregman has to be coming back. He tried playing hard ball, we all get it, but take the offer before other teams pull theirs (if that's even true). Knowing your worth is great BUT it takes two to tango and it looks like other teams are hesitant.
But why? What possible stake do the fans have in this? Why are fans so upset at him acting like a FA and working to get the best deal for himself? Why is it so important to fans to not give him anything more? Why? How does any of that benefit you? Why is it so important to hate on Bregman for trying to get the best offer he can. It's still the offseason. It's not like he is creating any problems to the team by signing next week instead of last week.
