Cam Johnson is starter quality player, with the needed skillset + helps Rockets right now. Doubtful any of those picks help Rockets for years, let alone provide any meaningful minutes during this playoff window.
This is exactly the type of desperate move Rockets should avoid. Giving away valuable assets for a player that doesn't move us up a tier. There's going to be a trade that makes sense for us to use those picks, but Cam Johnson isn't it.
At our most crowded position, so we'd just be trading defense for offense. Pointless. We need to dump a wing, we have no need for more unless elite. Get us a backup PG or backup big who can shoot. That's an actual need we can upgrade both offensively and defensively.
Cam Johnson provides the very thing that Rockets have been missing all season, elite 3P% and even more spacing in halfcourt offense. And Johnson is an underrated defender who is also very high IQ. Udoka will appreciate his hustle and other intangibles as much as the 41% 3P. Rockets will not and cannot play or even pay core 8 ... and counting.
7'1 Jay Huff from Timberwolves is 3rd string rim protecting stretch 5 who shoots over 40% 3P. Addresses multiple needs. And only 27 years old.
Do you know who any of those picks will be to make such an assertion then? Elite college 3P shooters do not always translate immediately.
Please tell me we're aggregating a bunch of SRPs to use them in a trade for an actual guy who will play in the rotation, not just to horde them like Smaug on his pile of gold
Yeah you mean Grizzlies. Maybe we shouldn't have let him go since he was on our summer league roster lol. I'm not sure if he's any good defensively. Olynyk should be available. I prefer range but maybe they're about to trade 5 second round picks for Robert Williams or something lol seems odd they're busy collecting second rounders.
Jay Huff from Grizz, thanks for correction. Huff was G League defensive player of the year so I'm certain his rim protection as well as 3P% is superior to Olynyk. And he's younger than Olynyk to boot.
No, but I know that their possible outcomes have a very wide range out of outcomes -- even top 3 pick. There actually highly regarded right now in the league too. The draft picks could be lotto picks, they could be used in a bigger package towards a star, they could be used to fill a need that puts us in another tier at a time when we are ready to compete for a championship. Cam Johnson is Cam Johnson and our odds of winning a championship goes from +5000 to +4500. Rockets have three ascending all-star caliber players who have not played in the playoffs yet. Let them get at least 1 playoff run before making desperate moves. I'm not saying we shouldn't look to make improvements, but that isn't it
My gut is telling me the Time Lord is coming. Maybe the Blazers wanted to wait till deadline day - trying for a first rounder with that BS unprotected pick press release - before agreeing to multiple second rounders from us. Fingers crossed, would be massive for us.
I guess we just think differently. I do not believe tomorrow is ever promised so you make hay today. Opportunity is a fickle thing.
