    That's what Im not understanding

WHY DO YOU THINK BILLIONARES CARE ABOUT YOU? @tallanvor

You know what they really think? They think you are weak, and easily manipulated and believe whatever they say. Thats what they think.

This is the only legitimate critique anyone has offered yet. The rest of this thread seems to be one big argument from ignorance . . . we don't know what they're doing, therefore they shouldn't be doing it. Statements like "How do we know they aren't installing malicious software on these mission critical systems?" aren't much of an argument.

I have no reason to be alarmed . . . so why should I be alarmed?

and yet that is exactly what people here are doing

    why not?

we don't even know what they are doing . . . how do we know what is "likely"??

my understanding is that the DOGE engineers were threatened with physical violence. That is a criminal act.

I've somehow gotten sucked into some sort of extended fear-mongering about Musk's minions mucking around in minutia they don't understand. I didn't ask for this conversation, but here we are.

Musk's tiger team is made up of six 19-24 year old computer engineers .. and they getting to decide ... who gets to stay and who gets to go ... what are good or bad uses of federal monies.

God only knows who is paying them. We can guess that Musk is the only person providing oversight ... lightly at best.

I was once a 19-24 year old computer engineer. I think that while these guys are well intentioned, they are hardly "experts" and lack both professional and life experiences to do the job at hand.

It is also broken thinking that federal employees are the best and the brightest. Those who get let go will be replaced someone with the same set of basic skills. Most people do not want a federal engineering job over a private industry job. Seeing how Trump Musk et al treats federal workers will also drive borderline applicants away.

history of the U.S. Digital Service:

    The USDS origin story
The idea of a team like USDS had been percolating since 2012, and people across federal agencies had been exploring new modes of hiring and working since 2008. The HealthCare.gov launch crisis created an opportunity for a scrappy idea to become a reality. The challenges behind the launch made clear that accessing government services should be as easy as ordering a book online.

Founded by President Obama in August of 2014, the U.S. Digital Service brought together the best engineering, design, and government talent to change our government’s approach to technology. We planned to hire ten people for three critical national priorities: modernizing immigration, Veterans’ benefits, and HealthCare.gov. During the 2015 State of the Union address, we launched an online application to join the team. We worried if ten people would even apply. 1000 did.

We quickly went to work with a simple strategy:

Recruit top designers, engineers, product managers, and digital policy experts. Pair these digital experts with our nation’s leading civil servants. Deploy these teams to address some of the most critical government services, together.

We’re proud of everything we’ve worked for since. The team we’ve assembled has relocated to Washington, D.C., from more than 20 states and territories and counting. They’re enthusiastic about emoji, laptop stickers, and scanning the Federal Register. Does this sound like you? Apply now.

Look if you're fine with a billionaire foreigner who has business ties to the CCP and no allegiance to anything except enriching himself go on ahead and give him the benefit of the doubt. Those with common sense know what time it is. I'm sure the same conversation has occurred every time an authoritarian attempted to take control over the government...keep playing boo boo the fool and see what happens.

If OS would take one sec to think for himself and see Musk for who he is, he would be concerned.
But he is too busy spewing out bullshit.

I have no reason so far to suspect that Musk's motives are anything other than what he says they are. nor do I have any reason thus far to suspect that the 25 year old 2021 Rutgers CS graduate is a security risk.

Again, these are all arguments from ignorance. Ordinarily arguments from ignorance are considered fallacious. But if folks want to continue to fear ghosts, that's their business.

As I asked in another thread to someone else, how many CEO billionaires do volunteer work for the US federal government on the side?

"Be kind" desk sign deemed contraband by Musk's DOGE enforcers

A small desk plaque reading "Be kind to everyone" became contraband in a federal intelligence agency last week — confiscated during a late-night sweep by Elon Musk's DOGE squad as they purged offices of anything resembling diversity initiatives, according to Mother Jones.

This Orwellian moment captures the spirit of Musk's shadow takeover of federal agencies, where even basic expressions of human decency are now viewed as suspicious.

The midnight raids, conducted by unnamed staffers who refuse to share their identities with career civil servants, have transformed routine government offices into something resembling a tech-bro dystopia.

Federal workers describe a mounting surreal atmosphere where young engineers fresh from college demand "code reviews" in the dead of night. Bathroom access now requires special clearance. Sunday evening emails encourage workers to quit their jobs.

The confiscated kindness plaque serves as an almost too-perfect symbol of this regime change. While Musk boasts about sleeping in DOGE offices and holding midnight X Spaces sessions about slashing the federal workforce, his foot soldiers are literally removing reminders of basic human courtesy from government walls.

In this new order, it seems, even a simple reminder to "be kind" is deemed too radical to remain.

Why not? Because you shouldn't access people's private info without clear indication of how you are using that data and what plan you have to protect privacy. That's standard compliance. I would believe it's also the law. So to say, "why should we care if they violate privacy laws and do whatever they want" is a bit ridiculous.

How, I will comply with the law, I promise. You have no reason to believe otherwise. You know me better than Elon. Just give it to me and I will keep it safe. :D
