    My guess is this was a cost focused trade. Grimes is up for his rookie extension this offseason and I assume they were far apart on talks.

    They probably think Martin is similar enough production on a cheap deal.

    To me, this deal is more of a look behind the curtain of this new Mavs organization and they are all about cutting costs. My guess is they prefer to tread water, be just competitive enough to give their fans hope (so they buy tickets) but never plan to spend what it takes to have a long championship run.

    Okay NOW the Luka trade makes sense.

    By itself Luka for AD looks bad

    But Luka and Grimes for AD and Martin makes it at least 50% more reasonable.
