Surprising as Reed had one of his best offensive games of the year. Offense doesn’t matter to Ime if he stinks defensively. I’m predicting 10+ tonight from Reed in a likely game that won’t be close. Anything less (assuming he plays) is a concern.
At this point, especially with the Cam and Reed situations, Stone need a tk be vigilant of his selections for now on. If they didn’t show the ability to be above average defenders, don’t draft them. Ime prioritize the defensive side of the floor. If Stone came to ime this weekend about the option of acquiring AD or Luka, ime probably wouldn’t think twice about choosing Ad over Luka
Delusional, yeah the January 2025 coach of the month has some sort of agenda against Reed and is actively trying to undermine his career. That's believable surely. Or how about we trust a guy who is one of the top coaches in the league, who knows how to develop players, and gets to see him in practice every single day. Trust me nobody is looking at Reed Sheppard's play and thinks that Udoka is foolish. He simply hasn't played well at all. G-League stats don't count, it's easy to score down there where no defense or team ball is being played.
Didn’t Ty Ty score 50 when sent down to G-League. I’m giving Reed a fresh start and really hope that this thread doesn’t age well. I want him to score 20 tonight and light it up, but we’re in February and it hasn’t happened so it needs to start soon and tonight is his best shot!
Well, the team played well today when Reed was on the court....but that made Ime mad so he pulled him and decided to lose the game instead. Ime may be a good coach overall, but that just makes his really bad spots stick out more.
Reed was a +19 in 5 ****ing minutes. How is possible he didn't even score? Because a Knick was glued to him every offensive possession. That's why.
Reed did nothing. You are coming unhinged, because Amen played point the first half and dominated. Really doesn't bode well for your idiotic Reed is the pg of the future. He is a bench warmer for at least the rest of this year and next. No amount of wanting Reed to be good will actually make him good. I hope he gets better, but right now he is a boy playing a man's game.
Bobby’s assertion that Ime got mad Reed played well is crazy but Reed actually played really well tonight in his role. Maybe his most productive game on the Rockets which sounds crazy since he played like 5 minutes and didn’t score. The crazy plus/minus of course isn’t fully on him but he was part of it. When he was in the game he pushed the rock really well and we got some easy initial baskets or oboards and baskets because the Knicks were out of position. I don’t recall off hand him getting cooked in a switch either. I thought he looked great and decisive with the ball and he probably should’ve gotten some minutes in the fourth.
He played 6 mins had zero point 1 assist 1 steal and 1 turnover. He bricked the only 2 shots he took Do you seriously believe he had an impact on this game? +- is such a bogus stat. Amen, who had a triple double with 25 points and with 3 to's was a -4. It's a ridiculous stat that means absolutely nothing. Holiday played his best game of the season, although he usually sucks as well. If Reed was making progress in games and practice, he would be getting more minutes. He's just not ready for the NBA. Maybe next year he'll earn third string Pg status.
Stats don’t always tell the whole story. The team looked different with him in the game pushing the pace. That we had one of the best stretches of the game with him pushing the ball up the court and making good decisions is not a total coincidence. On the other end I thought that second half for Jalen was about as bad as he’s been all year, even though his stats weren’t completely horrific. Tonight he was worse than some of his ~10 point games he’s had where he just kind of played within the game and didn’t make a bunch of mistakes or bad plays. Not doing that to dog pile on Jalen in another thread but more pointing out that even though his game stats don’t seem off the charts bad his -22 tonight was probably an accurate snapshot of his impact on the game where he’s had some games this season where he didn’t score much but helped the team win.
This game is totally on Ime. He went away from his first half philosophy and stuck Amen in the corner and gave the ball to an overmatched Jalen Green and didn't play Cam, the other player kicking butt, the entire 4th quarter when Jalen was fumbling the game away. Ime is so intent on sending messages about defense that he completely ignores what is working to build these leads. After Amen's brilliant game Ime complained about his defense. Re-watch the game. When Amen is the primary ball handler in the half court the whole team gets involved, the passing is crisp, and the team is getting open shots. We are missing Sengun, but more on the defensive end than the offensive end. We just scored 118 points on a really good defensive team without 3 important rotation players suited up. They scored 124 points, because our interior defense was total sh*t. That is because we are missing Sengun and Jabari. FVV and Dillon would be brilliant off the bench next year.
I dont know about Ime having a vendetta against Reed (I do think he should be playing more), but regarding the quoted part... People act like just because Ime does a lot of things well and because he's overall a great coach, that hes beyond reproach...Cant be criticized. Its a message board. All players and staff are going to be dissected here because "fan" is short for fanatic. Id venture most here arent just casuals who tune in every now and then and dont know nuances of whats going on. Ime has sone weak spots. We discuss them. Its ok.
Zero points was yet another disappointing outcome. Never seen anything like this out of a 3rd pick in the draft. Still only one game with free throws this entire season. You’d think he’d accidentally get fouled. His lack of aggression is at an all time pace for any 3rd pick in the history of the sport. He doesn’t get a ton of time, but neither does Cam and he gets points/fouls. For all those who said he scored 49 points in a g league game it was on a whopping 34 shots. We’re in February folks and he’s falling further and further behind Aaron freaking Holliday and was the 3rd pick in the entire draft.
What do you want? For everyone to agree with you that Reed is a bust? What does that accomplish? Maybe Reed will be a bust, maybe he won’t. It’s not the end of the world either way. Not all draft picks pan out. All teams have had picks that end up a dud. While a couple of people at Clutchfans may be going over the top in defending Reed, I think most people are disappointed he hasn’t done better. But, I think it is a valid point that Reed is still very very young and he still has a chance of being a very good player. So, I will give you this, and I hope it makes you feel good. Right now at this moment in time Reed looks like he may be a bust. YOU ARE CORRECT. However, as a longtime Rockets fan, I am still hopeful Reed will become a good player. There are many examples of players who started out slow that ultimately became good players. Reed is only 20 years old.
I will say it's refreshing to see Reed zip passes and keep the ball moving quickly. I think Ime was going to play him until Holiday started making shots.
Did Ime yank Reed becuase he was mad about something he did? Or was he just generally mad about the team play? I imagine Ime only intended to give Reed a few minutes in the first half. But it looked like he got ‘benched’ instead of “subbed out”
But don't you think Anthony Bennett should have played more minutes his rookie year in Cleveland? You are right.....just baffling
