Ugh I wish this would just wrap up and we could move on with our lives. I am sure the Astros have and so has Bregman, but the media is squeezing the lemon.

Assuming he has 6/160 on the table, which seems to be the ballpark low end. He will have made roughly 8/220 since he was originally set to become a free agent, not chump change. Players are all aware you may cost yourself some long term earning potential taking the early security, it's not a revelation.

Bregman cost himself money by having his worst season in a contract year, another thing all players are aware of. He tried to have a big season by taking less walks and it backfired. If he posted his normal .365 OBP he would have gotten his 200 million. Instead he now looks like a player already in decline, whether thats true or not.

And a player 2 years older near the age 30 mark will almost always appear in decline more than not.

and I’m not disagreeing with any of this… and both can certainly be true as the early extension doesn’t always work out the best for players who put up gold glove or MVP caliber seasons early on.

Or... everyone thinks it is inevitable that Bregman comes back because there are no better offers... and everyone's trying to claim they won for PR reasons somehow...

The offer can always be rescinded due to any other deal which might come up. There is a cost to waiting.

The Astros are very familiar with Boras and how he negotiates.

Boras has 4-5 teams he is talking to and is trying to get one of them to “break” and offer more. It may happen, I think Detroit would likely offer more. However I also believe Bregman can forget any Hall of Fame consideration playing in that ballpark in Detroit. With the Astros or Red Sox or Yankees he potentially could get in.

That is a good comp but right now the market is different. A lot of it is going to depend on the market and what Framber wants. He has a lot of weird off the field quirks and concerns that the Astros have dealt with.

Besides the park factor, Detroit also has the issue of their best player is two years from free agency with Scott Boras as his agent. They are looking at having to trade Tarik Skubal by next offseason if they can’t extend him.

Framber has won 20 in the show. He can let fungus grow on his shower shoes if he wants and he's just being colorful.

He has some of these types of quirks, but the concern more is how will he handle change and a possible slow start somewhere else. He is a hell of a pitcher but if I were another team I would have to take that into account. He is a more reserved but every bit as crazy and more talented version of Jose Lima.

Lima! That’s a name I’ll never forget.. I was working at Discount Tire (in Pearland) putting myself through college at UH and one day he came in and ordered 3 sets of 24” wheels/tires. He asked if I could deliver them to his house. So I loaded them up in my 1991 Chevy truck and drive them over there.

When I got through the security gate in his neighborhood (Silver Lake if IIRC), he was in his driveway with his shirt off, drinking a beer with a cigar.. lol. His agent standing there on the phone and I and a coworker at the time unloaded the wheels/tires and rolled them into his garage. Jose said he was sending them to his house in the Dominican.

Anyways, after we unloaded them, he popped the back of his new Escalade and told us to check his new TV/sound system out. It was decked out.. and low and behold, the TVs started playing hardcore p*rn in his driveway. It was both hilarious, weird and a WTF moment. He had that **** on full blast for a good 10 min lol..

He then invited us inside, demanded our shoes come off and not to touch the walls. I swear there was 20+ shoes lined up and the house was full of his “people”. Pretty nice house with a beach type pool with white sand into the pool.

We ended up staying there for a few hours and had a few beers. He invited us to his Halloween party that was later that month. He was cool and could def lose his temper randomly. RIP Lima!

Or they could trade for an OF bat and Chas could go back to 2023 levels and the good times keep on rolling.

What a great story. One of my mom's friends was his neighbor in Pearland and their boys were friends. We went over there for the boy's birthday party and Lima and his son were there. Lima spent about 30 minutes singing his songs from his El Mambo de Lima album.

    Dude was a character.

No. I’m not in the least suggesting they owe anything to the club other than best efforts while under contract. What I’m suggesting is that chasing the absolute last dollar, when you have so many others of them, is not likely to be a winning strategy in life and absolute maximization at all costs doesn’t likely lead to maximum happiness. also- let’s not cry for AB or Yordan. They both guaranteed generational wealth as a worst case scenario for their careers in signing 9 figure extensions, and they will both likely get a 9 figure future deal. That’s just basic prudence in an endeavor where a physical injury could be the difference between 9 figures and nothing. They got their lifetime of comfort guaranteed. They gave up a little for that piece of mind. They then will get another bite at the apple.
