Of course I'm biased, but....The Police.

Sting - amazing song writer, vocalist and CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED bass player. Some of the things he was playing WHILE SINGING will blow your mind. The Police are famous for having the bass carry the melody of most of their early songs.
Andy Summers - virtuoso guitar player. Literally nothing he can't do musically.
Stewart Copeland - one of the most unique drummers in rock. Used his unorthodox style to create his own sound which is really hard to do as a drummer.

I loved the Police, IMO they had a different sound, more pop than hard core rock, but I can get down with them.

Having Geddy Ranked 24th is like saying
    Stevie Ray Vaughn was Allright

    Seen Rush 22 times.
No band could do what they did live without the magic of looping and fillers.

If you get a chance read my Effin Life by Geddy.
    Great stuff.

    A matter of taste.
I grew up in the 80's.
Ghost in the machine and Synchronicity were the shite.
We Rush kids were the music nerds.

I figured this would be a Rush circle-jerk.

Sorry you don't dig music that 99% of musicians can't play.
You may not dig them but you can't deny their virtuosity.

If you ever watch reaction videos you should check out those who hear them for the first time.
    Minds blown.

Spark up a Doogie. Put on the headphones and listen to 2112. You won't regret it.

Songs like Xanadu The Camera Eye and LA Villa Strangiato are some of the most complex pieces of music ever written.
The Camera Eye has 10 different movements alone.

i fully expect to be mocked for this and i probably deserve it, but ill throw U2 out there. are any of them technically brilliant players? no, but each of them has a distinctive sound and style on their respective instruments. you can hear any of the four of them individually and recognize their sound. the band and the individual players have all evolved in sound through the decades.

@ima_drummer2k can probably back me up on this, but larry mullen jr is a criminally underrated drummer. innovative, creative, metronomic groove, melodic. master of the 16th note tom groove!

so yeah, U2...come at me bro!

Just put on Exit...Stage Left and enjoy. It's got everything you need. Radio hits (Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Red Barchetta), fan favorites (The Trees, Xanadu, La Villa Strangiato, Jacob's Ladder) and of course an iconic extended drum solo that would make Buddy Rich proud (YYZ).

Greatest live album ever recorded IMO. No hyperbole.

Agreed. I'm actually a U2 OG. I got into them in the 8th grade after War came out and I heard Sunday Bloody Sunday on the radio for the first time. I rented the VHS of their Red Rocks concert from my local video store....and never returned it. Unforgettable Fire is, IMO, the greatest rock album of the 80's.

And yes, Larry AND Adam are one of the most underrated rhythm sections in rock. Talk about 2 players that completely play to the song. They both lay the foundation that allows Bono and Edge to do what they do.

They may have gotten too big and pretentious at some point, hence all the backlash....but they are greater than the sum of their parts musically. They make each other better.

Slow your chops there pale rider!
    1. I don't think you're sorry
    2. I didn't say that I didn't like Rush (I don't like Geddy Lee's voice but I can't deny how good the band is)
    3. I'm not a big downer substances guy, it just puts me to sleep.
My point was, I knew when this thread was posted, it would be about Rush, who most middle aged rock music fans acknowledge as the most talented rock group ever.

Has anyone said Dave Matthew’s Band?
I wasn’t much of a fan growing up outside of maybe 3 songs, and I still don’t like much of their music…but as a jam band, their 15 minute covers of classics like Cortez the Killer or Down By The River are some of my ultimate favorite songs. And then when they add guys like Warren Haynes — spectacular.
