I miss the Bregman who hit gap-to-gap line drives and just let the HRs come Popup Bregman is the most annoying Bregman, 2nd only to "stare at the ball down the middle" Bregman
If memory serves, 2017, 2019, and 2022 were big elevate the ball years for Bregman with a lot of pop ups, flyballs, and/or homers. I'd say lately Bregman is just not hitting the ball well (more grounders and more flies with less line drives). I don't mind popup Bregman as popup Bregman is closely followed by either home run Bregman or line drive Bregman. I don't like I can't square up on the ball Bregman such that he's just trying to get bat on ball instead of doing damage.
We're really talking about Bregs like he wasn't elite for the last 130 games of the season? He was ass for a solid month but then turned back the clock for the rest of the season. And one of the only guys hitting during the too-short playoffs.
He had a 2 HR game on the 38th game which I assume is what you are talking about...that raised his OPS to .615. By game 51, his OPS was back down to .589...
OPS was like 540 before game 38. And game 52 he brought it right back to 612. You are nitpicking my statement but you’re drawing arbitrary endpoints. The fact is, Bregman was much better starting early May than he was previous to that. And he kept that up for the rest of the season.
He had a .577 OPS entering May and then a .589 OPS after the game ended on May 27th. So for 27 days in May he was ass. From May 15th to May 25th, he went 5 for 40. Saying it only took him 37 games is objectively false. His turnaround started May 28th.
White Sox just DFA’ed Zach DeLoach, 26 year old LHH OF 2020 2nd rd pick from A&M. He’s shown 20/20 skills and can play all 3 OF spots. I think he’d be a more valuable player than Cooper Hummel or Jon Singleton, especially considering DeLoach still has options remaining and can be stashed in the minors.
I'm of two minds on this: 1) The white sox suck so it seems icky to dumpster dive for their leftovers 2) The white sox are dumb, so maybe you should give it a hard look whenever they jettison someone. Tie-breaker is he's an aggy, so probably a pass for me. Mostly kidding on the last part.
It’s really weird that they are DFAing him. They just acquired him as part of the Gregory Santos trade last season. Unless he has some kind of major injury or off the field incident nobody knows about or unless they have a trade for him already lined up, they’ve surely got a lot more dudes on their 40 man roster with less value than DeLoach.
