I don't know. About the only way I can justify this trade is if he's got some injury that will affect him the rest of his career, but that would be discovered during a physical probably. Or, if he was an obese alcoholic at the age of 25 and they don't think he's worth it if he's just going to start falling apart in a couple of years. Outside of that, I have no idea wth prompted this. I can't imagine Mavs ownership/management is that stupid.
I'm sorry - I was talking about the future. Guys that can't maintain their bodies and (apparently) have alcohol issues don't necessarily get better. Maybe the Mavs know more about this than we do?

Harden got a lot of **** that Luka gets a pass on. The lack of conditioning and defensive effort with Doncic has low key been a big limiting factor in Dallas.

So owners have no clue about the NBA? I doubt any NBA owner is this ignorant of the NBA. Luka literally lef them to the Finals last year what red flags can he have? The owners are cheap and didnt want Luka and the Mavs GM has a fixation with AD thats all there is to it. If the owners got fooled they would have fired the GM by now.
Like I said, I don't understand the trade to begin with, but I could understand Dallas trying to trade him away before the big payday if what I said were true (that they think he'd break down). The rest of the trade, like why not go to other teams, etc. I don't know. That's the part that I don't get. It's not like AD is some trash player, but still. Also, I'm not sure what other team would trade their star/superstar player for him. I'd have to think about that.
Luka brought his team to the Finals at 24 yrs old. He gets a pass cuz he achieved more than Harden. He already beat much higher seed like PHX, OKC and Wolves. Harden lost to lower seed multiple times and his best feat is still losing to KD Warriors. Like his best achievement is still losing lol.
everyone is cheap/smarft with money. but not everyone is as stupid as the Dallas owners you said they not ignorant so the owners know they could at least seen what the other 28 teams had to offer right? for the guys who "literally led them to NBA finals last year"
