If an investigation reveals that the air traffic controller was incompetent, AND that he/she was a DEI hire, then I will agree with Trump and conservatives here that this is an example of a terrible, deadly consequence of DEI. If the fault did not lie with the air traffic controller, or if the ATC wasn’t a DEI hire, then I will agree with liberals here the Trump shouldn’t be saying such things. BUT… I think it’s too early to make accusations either way.
Jan. 21, 2025: Trump guts TSA and Aviation Safety "I naively thought, 'oh they're not going to do anything in the new administration, to put security at risk - aviation security at risk.' But I'm not so sure," said Stephanie Bernstein. https://apnews.com/article/coast-gu...es-trump-tsa-d3e4398c8871ada8d0590859442e092c
Having watched a lot of air disasters , my opinion is that its mostly on the helicopter and little if any blame is on ATC or airplane pilots , or change in runway. I imagine the helicopter is very hard to see. If night vision goggles were the cause ( as im seeing here on bbs ) investigation will recommend changes to military's SOP on training flights. Piloting is a professional profession. ATC has always been an understaffed high stress position. How safe the FAA and NTSB have made our flying system ( despite the immense traffic ) is commendable. Crashes like this are a tradgedy and if we learn a lesson that allows us not to repeat it , good . To argue that it never should have happened and start to blame incompetence right off the bat is knee-jerk . Shouldn't be politicized , DEI hires my ass. Republicans have been talking about government incompetency for 50 years . And look, in terms of Law, and corruption , and corporate malfeasance.... yeah the govt has been pretty bad overall. But in terms of air safety we are pretty damn good, TSA aside, which is security theatre.
interesting. prior to this crash, the last fatal crash in the US was in 2009. where have you been watching "a lot of air disasters?"
The TV show Air crash investigations, it was on Smithsonian channel i think . There's also one on youtube called Mayday . I also watch other aviation content , im somewhat of an enthusiast. definitely not a professional. But my opinions may be somewhat founded in reality .
Please stop embarrassing yourself. Even @deb4rockets, who is surely not a Trump fan - and who is an expert in the field, she worked in air traffic control - said it doesn't make sense to blame Trump for this. Equally, I agree with @droxford that blaming DEI for this is, at the very least, entirely premature, and likely incorrect. It seems like whoever was piloting the helicopter simply committed a horrible error that caused this tragedy.
