The story of the indices - even before the Trump tariffs take effect - is upward price pressure: Going across a broad range of PPI, CPI and PCE inflation measures they all show the same thing, rising price pressures. Today’s PCE report showed a rise in the Fed’s preferred measure of inflation to 2.6% from 2.4%, with the core measure still at 2.8%. Earlier this month, we saw CPI rise too, up to 2.9%, with the core also higher at 3.2%. More worrying, though, is PPI as it suggests price pressures in the pipeline. And those were the highest numbers of the bunch, with the headline figure rising to 3.3% and core also higher at 3.5%. Not only are all the inflation numbers well above the Fed’s 2% target, they have also been rising.

You threaten to put a tariff on a good that would negatively impact my sales. I come to you and give you something you want to avoid that. I work for an international oil company. I give you a million dollars to ensure maximum oil profits. You get rid of CAFE standards requiring fuel efficiency. You EXEMPT oil imports from tariffs. Easy to understand.

So with the price hikes we are about to see, I'd imagine Trump's next plan is to focus on tax cuts for the rich. I'm sure he will pretend to throw a few bones our way by stating that he is offsetting the increase in prices due to his tariffs by "reducing taxes". He must need some sort of facade to sell the public on it. I mean the tax cuts for us were about to revert back to pre 2018 levels anyways, so he will extend those along with maybe some additional cuts. Hope individuals are ready for this.
