It's hard to assume you can dump an albatross contract these days though, it's much harder. I very much want him on the spurs, it hurts their draft pick this season and saddles them with a 30% max for a guy who isn't that good. Ya, wemby will obviously make him look much better (he would do that for anyone), but i'd rather fox than risk them getting a real difference maker. If i thought fox could be a difference maker for the rockets to the point where he would make us a real possible contender these next 2 years, sure, i would go for it. He's just.....not that good ultimately and should age horrendously.

Seems to me that a team that needs a closer could use the guy who literally won the inaugural clutch player of the year just 2 seasons ago. And he's just 27 years old and still at least has a year and a half on his current contract. With him we're already contenders next year and will probably serious championship threats before Amen even has to get paid. The 2nd apron is 134% of the cap so even after the Amen extension there's still a lot of room. I've commented on Tilman's cheapness before but I'm sure he'll pay up for a legit favorite/ long term contender. Any serious contender will be wedged up right beside that 2nd apron eventually.

I'd also say that all things equal, the less Klutch clients on this roster, the better.

As a serious question, why are they doing this now, especially if their end game is Fox in San Antonio? Sac has been playing well and San Antonio has somewhat fallen apart. I get wanting to hitch to Wemby long term but seems like this would have been a lot better after the season.

Because of extension rules, you have to wait 6 months or something, that's why they want it now. Just a money thing.

Ah. I hadn't seen that. That makes sense then and is reasonable.

Wtf is the “clutch player of the year award” and why on earth does it matter?

I think SA has a dilemma. I believe they are suprised to be in the play-in conversation this year. I think they really intended to, and may still intend, to tank in this very talented draft. If they get Fox, who is an incredibly good fit for them, then they will most certainly not be in the lottery. I think they will try and wait it out and get him in the off-season or as a free agent the following year.

He also could ask for a renegotiation and extension, there's no reason for anyone to give him that but it's something he's eligible for

Nah nah bro, my whole post was debunking the notion of it's the same as any other player getting better with Wemby. It doesn't matter what he's worth on the Rockets, he's going to be worth $50m on the Spurs and no that's not the case for everyone. Some people will get 10% better and others will get more than 20% better. It's a big difference. It's also SUCH a great fit for the coaching staff. Fox is Tony Parker on steroids, Pop knows exactly what to do when he's back.

Someone can ditch him before it becomes an albatross. He will surely be worth his salary at age 30. It's not till 32-33 that these guards become albatrosses. Why would you get saddled with something you can predict on a message board in Jan 2025? Just plan for it. Try one deadline earlier to create a buffer, whatever.

I would rather Wemby gets Booker or something to be honest. Guys like Fox and Giannis are best fit and synergy with him.

Can't remember which show but someone mentioned he can just play 2 weeks then get a "light hamstring sprain" that takes too long to heal and they don't want to rush their new prized asset bla bla.

Spurs would totally do it too, I think that's how they got Tim Duncan (Robinson barely played though healthy I believe? can't remember).

Vlade Divac didn't want to Draft Luka Doncic because of his Dad, he didn't like playing against him. Drafted Marvin Bagley a Terrible Player.

Tyrese Halliburton traded for Domantas Sabonis. Looks bad considering DeAaron Fox will leave and No Luka Doncic or Tyrese Halliburton.

Ya that's very true. We don't have wemby though so.....nothing we can do about that. I do hope pop comes back though, he's easily the worst coach in the league now so he would help undo some of the wemby stuff.

If you want a championship you have to pay for one. You don’t win championships, you have to take them. We can go get Fox and keep Fred or we can get Fox and let Fred go. But the way Fred has been playing is not worth 42 million.

Offensively outdated, still pretty great everywhere else though. Most importantly player development and mental championship advice.

New guy seems pretty good, no one talking about it.

I feel like we don't need a regular season MVP as much as we do a Finals MVP archetype or an ultra-clutch guy, you know what I mean? Almost like a post-MVP player.

    In their late prime:

    Kawhi
    Durant
    Jaylen Brown
Iguodala (well we have Iggy on steroids, but very young)
    Paul Pierce
    Tony Parker
    Chauncey Billups

It's a different personality who is more beneficial to us in tough regular season games and playoff games without overstepping on the young guys for most of the regular season. These guys are all about winning so they're actually in their late prime happy to let others get more individual accolades while they focus on the toughest of the tough games.

Too bad Suns are closing the door on Durant trades for now. In the summer I won't be interested anymore. I will prefer to get a star PG who can shoot. I think the Bucks will suck in the playoffs if they don't make a good trade, so I have a feeling Lillard will be available this summer. That would be awesome, again a late career Lillard is exactly the kind of guy who can win his Finals MVP with us and not need to lift a heavy load in the regular season.

Fox to Spurs is not a bad outcome for Rockets imo.

Fox is really good, but not tier one and not as good as Cooper/Wemby would be. Spurs could overtake PHX in the standing and I would bet GSW makes a move to push themselves past PHX. PHX could finish 11th place with Kings finishing 12th. A PHX collapse only benefits Rockets lol

We’ll see. It’s not so much this year, but if the Spurs start winning with Fox and Wemby, it won’t be hard from them to land a third big piece.
