Bregs is in a pickle. Detroit may be the tall blonde that'll allow him to buy his sports car he always wanted but Houston is the mother of his kids, who still looks pretty hot- just not (let's drop everything and travel around the world anytime we want) hot.

Sometimes, you just got to go with your heart and quit playing games.

How many homers did our LF rob last year? I can tell you it’s zero at MMP

That's the sad thing. Being stubborn just to be stubborn leads to regret in these situations.

I cannot see how Bregs would want to go to Detroit. First, Detroit as a city sucks. Second, Detroit as a home ballpark would murder his offensive output. Does he care about becoming a 15 home run/doubles guy? Third, teaming with Hinch brings back 2017 chatter. Not hugely important, but why deal with it. Fourth, Detroit isn’t as strong as a contender as Houston.

Deciding to finish your career at Detroit is a hell of a pill to swallow. That’s assuming Detroit has offered more guaranteed money than Houston.

    I don’t buy it.

I was going to say Pedro Guerrero, but looking back, he played OF as much, if not more, than 3B. Watching him play in the Dome when I was a kid, he was a beast from '80-'89, ages 24-33, but fell off a cliff after that and retired at 36.

Well, it's not just homers. I just can't picture him as an outfielder. You'd think that height and long legs has its advantages out there. Any idea how far he can throw from left field? I have no idea.

If we took Verlander, they could take Bregman...

Detroit is one of the nastiest places imaginable to live in America. It's totally gross and unsafe, with totally incompetent leadership.

Boston is a difficult place to live - isolated geographically and deeply ingrained local cultures where if you're not from there, it's tough to assimilate. Boston does have a much larger Jewish population than Detroit (and Houston) -- not sure how important that is to Bregman.

Boston would be a good fit culturally and competitively for Bregman, but the roster fit is weak since Devers doesn’t want to move off of 3B.

Detroit is a non-contender without spending a shitload more money and I think that’s the thing that would scare Bregman. The whole “Detroit is a shithole city” is an overblown talking point amplified by stupid rednecks who watch too much cable news. It’s not a great place to live but if you have $200M it’s just fine.

If the hangup with Bregman is the “this is a paycut” deal, switch it up so it’s $150M/5yr with a $6M player option for the 6th year. Astros make the same commitment, Bregman gets his “raise” AND his long term deal.

Have you been to Detroit lately? It's a dump. Bad weather, bad crime, very bad urban blight, racial strife, very bad infrastructure (and getting worse with current leadership). It might be the single worst place for an MLB player to live. It's an obvious place that wealthy people would avoid, unless the money is enough to make a meaningful lifestyle difference, which in this case, it will not be for him.

Why are you inserting politics into this? I don't watch Fox News. I've been to Detroit. You have not apparently.

His arm would be by far the worst aspect of him playing LF. At home it wouldn’t be a huge issue since LF is so small but on the road it wouldn’t be ideal to say the least.

His height impacts his ability to get to balls playing 2B as well so really doesn’t matter either way there.

Because it’s clear your perception is skewed by ingesting right wing bullshit.

Detroit’s weather is no worse than any other city in that general latitude. They just had the lowest number of homicides since 1965. All other violent crime is also on the decline. Racial strife? Show your receipts or GMAFB.

If you think Alex Bregman is going to factor in “city infrastructure” or “urban blight” into his decision in any way shape or form, you’re an idiot.

I visited Comerica Park many years ago when the city was in bankruptcy and the area around the ballpark was absolutely a dump. The street lights weren’t working, we saw a police car pass us that had significant damage, and the buildings were run down.

That said, went back somewhat recently and it’s fine now. Regardless, the players were never living in the city.
