If Bregman’s just playing the stros:

    Astros get:
    3B Nolan Arenado
    OF Lars Nootbar
    $15M

    Cardinals get:
    IF Isaac Paredes

    Astros lineup:
    2B Altuve
    3B Arenado
    DH Alvarez
    1B Walker
    LF Nootbar
    C Diaz
    RF McCormick
    SS Pena
    CF Melton
    Bench: Dubon, Meyers, Caratini, Hummel

If there’s no other appealing options I wouldn’t mind Houston trading for Luis Arraez and putting him in LF. LH bat that doesn’t strike out and won’t cost any good prospects.

I don't think he wouldn't cost any good prospects

He’s making $14M, is a pending free agent, doesn’t hit for power, and is a bad fielder. The batting titles are cool and all but he’s barely worth his salary.

Padres made a big move up in the standings with him getting all those hits. He was relentless last year. Correct?

From the “who says no” dept:

    Astros get:
    OF Luis Robert Jr.
    OF Andrew Benintendi
    $45M

    White Sox get:
    IF Isaac Paredes

Astros get a potential superstar OF in Robert plus a reclamation project in Benintendi (who doesn’t strike out much and hits from the left side). White Sox get a young controllable core piece.

I’m really surprised the White Sox haven’t traded Robert. They seem to be embracing the rebuild, and if Robert has a bad season, they’re going to be left with nothing to show for him (just like they were with Moncada).

For me I don’t really like this trade for Houston, even though it ostensibly fixes their OF. I’d want the White Sox toss in something more, although I doubt they’d be interested in giving up prospects. Maybe giving back Korey Lee (who still has one option year left).

Signing Bregman and Polanco and trading Paredes for Robert would pretty much be a dream lineup:

    2B Altuve
    3B Bregman
    DH Alvarez
    1B Walker
    C Diaz
    CF Robert
    LF Polanco
    RF McCormick
    SS Pena

I know Robert has all the talent in the world but he has a heart the size of the Grinch’s before he felt love. Not to mention having a .02 head. He’s a risk for sure.

Robert is a risk worth taking because of his salary, in my opinion. I really love the Paredes signing. I would like to just let Bregman go and trade for Robert. Paredes is signed for 3 years is 26 years old and a pull hitter. Robert is a very affordable risk and might allow for signing another RH hitting outfielder like Profar. An outfield of Robert in CF and rotation of McCormick, Profar, Dicenzo, Myers. Alvariz could be pretty spicy.

Would they really give up 45M? I really love Paredes at 3b. I would just go for Robert with prospects if possible and forget about Bregman.

The $45M is to cover Benintendi’s contract. He’s been below replacement level the last two seasons so if Chicago wants to get rid of him they’re going to have to pay most if not all of the remaining money he’s owed. I’d be fine leaving him (and the $45M) out of the deal but I personally think Paredes is worth more than Robert so I wouldn’t want Houston to do just a straight swap. Agreed thinking about it more this probably isn’t a very realistic hypothetical as if/when Chicago trades Robert, they’ll be looking for more traditional prospects.

White Sox are hoping that Robert gets healthy and productive so that when they do trade him they can get a bigger return from what they'd get now. He's signed for three more seasons at 15 + 20 (club option) + 20 (club option). When healthy the kid is really good but as we all know that's been the problem (staying healthy).

They just tried to trade him to the Reds for Edwin Arroyo. He's a SS i believe. He's only the #92 prospect in baseball. I wonder if we could match that. He would instantly be our best outfielder. Is Brice straight up for him too much on our side? I don't think Dana would trade him tho.

Teams that make the most sense for a Paredes trade if Houston signs Bregman:

Tigers: Kerry Carpenter + a prospect

Blue Jays: Springer + money and prospects; maybe bring back Wagner to play LF?

Mets: lots of ways it could go. Maybe McNeil + Marte + $, maybe Baty, maybe prospects, maybe any combo of those

Brewers: Frelick or Mitchell plus prospects

I don’t think the White Sox are match but maybe a 3-way trade could get Robert Jr. to Houston.

I know I'm getting old when I'm still interested, but don't want to play GM anymore. Let the kids do it.

Springer, Wagner, Bloss, and all but $6M of Springer’s contract for Paredes would be a solid trade for both sides imho. Springer has a limited no-trade and I’m sure Houston’s a team he probably won’t go back to.
