Maybe.... I think even he would admit though that this team is ahead of schedule. Last season I thought the team still needed more talent, and still needed to be in develop mode this year. I wanted more picks, and wanted more assets to make deals, and bring in more young role player types. I don't by any means think that Stone is a bad GM... he's actually a good one IMO... but the reality is if he had it his way on every deal the past 4 years we'd actually be worse off IMO. No way to know for sure, but all indications are that he was willing to gut alot of what we have for Donovan Mitchell and/or Bridges as our centerpiece. They had sort of a buyers remorse with Sengun and were on board with putting him on the bench. They wanted to extend KPJ. etc. etc. So like alot of this stuff is good fortune, and things just working out. I stand by owning it last season that I was upset that Stone didn't move Tate for 2nd rounders but happy to be wrong because it does look like we need him now and he's helping bring depth we'll need for a playoff run.
I bet Tate has higher ambitions and opinion of his abilities than you think, which is part of what makes him great. Every time he steps on the floor he plays like he thinks he belongs. I know Tate must believe he is every bit as good as Dillon or Tari and he is out there trying to prove it. Holiday plays that way too.
Tate, like Holiday, is a fantastic backup player. His moves and shooting at the rim for a player his size are excellent, he plays hard and is a solid passer with a great attitude and work ethic. He should be the guy with this long a tenure
Move Tate’s tradeable salary to next season while picking up a first. Tate won’t get any playing time when the team is at full strength.
I originally thought this was unrealistic but if this team really makes noise in the playoffs the rockets might be willing to start luxury tax clock early. You could just keep everyone. Jeff Green on a minimum, Adams on a smaller deal, FVV option picked up and extended on a cheap deal, extend Tate. I just keep thinking it's doing Tate a disservice not moving him to another team that can use his bird rights and he could be a permanent fixture in their rotation. But, maybe you just let him make that decision in the offseason.
We're definitely gonna find out which of these vets want to be a part of it. The rates are going down for sure. Tate at like 6-7 for 3 more years is an easy win for both sides imo. I love Tate more than most but is anyone really about to offer him 10-12 million yearly? If so I'd shake his hand and say thanks and good luck, except when you play the Rockets. I'd guess Tate wants to be here and appreciates the opportunity that set him up for life after the long road it took to get here. There are worse gigs than being in a perfect situation, which he is.
I’m a big fan, but I think 2nd rounders are valuable and don’t like to see guys leave in the offseason without getting any return. Tate is getting minutes though. With Bari hurt and Tari’s injury uncertainty, I won’t be surprised if he’s here past the deadline. I do love him as bench depth, but I don’t think k he’s a rotation player on a contender.
Stone is the one who oversaw the entire rebuild he mostly "had his way" lol not sure what you are talking about. Buyer's remorse with Sengun? If he had buyer's remorse he would have traded Sengun stop making **** up.
He isnt leaving he is gonna be resigned. He isnt meant to be a rotation player he is meant to be insurance for injuries like today.
Tate has grown on me over time... I've gone from thinking of him as "okay this guy is whatever" to "this guy deserves to be in an every game NBA rotation". But that also means I feel like it's a little unfair to him to keep running him out there every second game for like 10 minutes. I mean, if he wants to re-sign to a veteran minimum kind of deal, I'm cool with it, but if not I do think we should let him go and actually, you know... get to play basketball. It's the right thing to do, if that's what he wants
He should be re-signed at 7-9M like his current deal. He provides quality depth and having played with our guys for years there is an understanding and chemistry there already. In our system Tate can play positions 2-5 so having him means insurance for multiple positions.
It was widely reported that he was trying to make those deals happen and they couldn’t get it done. Maybe Iko etc were getting their facts messed up. I dunno but going off of what we heard yes if Stone got his way this roster would likely look a lot different. And yes we all should remember the Bruno Fernando era. I don’t think that was Silas going rogue dude. The front office and coaches had serious doubts about him if you believe people who report on the team. Won’t name names here but we all know. I’m not making that up. Then there is the KPJ stuff and holy hell I can’t believe you’d want to go down that road. Stone was saved here by KPJ’s stupidity.
Tate is valuable. A lot depends on whether we can extend Tari AND Jabari. If Rox decide they can’t keep both, then I think Tate gets another deal here. If Tari/Bari get long deals, then it is fair to let Tate go and find a team with a bigger role. Of course if he strikes out on the FA market, we bring him back, like we did with Aaron this season.
Love to hear this, this board has been looking to offload Tate since he got here. The return most likely wouldn’t meet his value as a ‘stay ready crew’ lynchpin … personally I’ve been a fan since he stood up to Harden in his first training camp
Tate is Tari insurance. Having said that, we deserves a consistent spot on some team in the NBA. We can't give him that. I don't even think we can give him a 8 figure salary, we is worth it. But not here.
Donovan Mitchell is actually a superstar so if it worked out its not the end of the world. He is the reason Cavs are so good. The Nets made Bridges untouchable and talks never progressed beyond Stone asking if he was available. We dont know if Stone intended to get Bridges or not, its not like there was an offer right? If Bridges was available for a FRP who says no? I certainly would like that. So what if Sengun got brought off the bench? Tari and Cam came off the bench doesnt mean Stone wants to trade these two. Using that as evidence HAD REGRETS drafting Sengun as the highest definitions of cope. And Sengun was starting since his 2nd year and never looked back. What Bruno Fernando saga? You mean 3 games? Sengun wasnt the starter then, him and BF were being seen as the potential starter. Once Sengun proved himself the better player he started every game of his career. Having to earn your minutes, what a crazy concept. Its not like Cam Whitmore, Amen, Sheppard and Tari needed to do the same...oh wait. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/sengual01.html I understand. There are def some dumb people in the world. Someone out there thinks Einstein is dumb, Michaelangelo is a horrible artist and Beethoven is a horrible musician. But brother you understand the ridiculousness of your statement right? Complaining about KPJ and his unguaranteed deal when the team is 2nd seed with a bunch of 23 yr olds? Saying if Stone had his way this team would suck when he is literally the GM? lol wtf. Stone is the GM he oversaw this rebuild.
Maybe you should be the one to calm down and dont lose your **** over KPJ's unguaranteed contract or Sengun coming off the bench for 3 games lol. Nobody but the downers care about that kind of crap Sengun about to be an all star but you still have an axe to grind cuz he came off the bench for 3 games during his second year? lol.
