You don’t move your Ace when you are trying to make a title run. Until someone establishes themselves with Ace potential, you absolutely don’t consider moving Framber. They felt comfortable letting Verlander go when Framber reached that level. This team is going to rely on starting pitching a lot this season and Framber is a huge part of that.
There's no way Framber is traded unless this team is out of contention at the deadline, but I don't see the Astros extending him either. Will Framber be eligible for the QO (thus a draft pick) next off-season?
If the Mets wanted Bregman over Alonso, they have had nearly three months to get in the bidding. Also, I don’t think David Stearns is going to give Bregman a long-term offer. He is the reason for Alonso’s short-term offers with the Mets.
Together those presumably long, high priced contracts would leave the team unable to be flexible in their payroll decisions for years. In my opinion if only one can be sustained I believe Framber is more important to the future success of the team. He would also require fewer years to re sign than Bregman is seeking.
Agree - there is no chance they are moving Framber mid-season. How many contenders get to midseason and say "hey, you know what, we have TOO MUCH starting pitching so lets trade our ace!" And by definition, you'd be trading him to another contender that you might face in the playoffs.
Framber is not just a pitcher, he is a legitimate ace. That is a very valuable and a rare commodity. Not sure what Tucker last year has to do with Valdez next year.
I'm not saying they want Bregman over Alonso. I'm saying if Alonso goes someplace else they may decide Bregman is a good next option.
They might, but David Stearns isn’t giving Bregman six years, $180 million unless Steve Cohen orders him to do so.
I think a good comp on Framber is Aaron Nola with Philly. He signed a 7/172 when he was 32 (Framber will be 32 when he's a FA).
******* Bregs, no one is going to pay what you’re demanding. Use some common sense, tell Boras to STFU and come home!
No way the offer is still on the table if they sign Polanco, right? Bregman is taking a huge risk here.
At this point, Boras may be hoping for a spring training injury somewhere and pimp Bregman to a desperate team.
That'd be nice. Bregs has all the power here. He can tell Boras to **** off and sign the deal w/ us. I'd love him back, but let's get some resolution on this **** one way or another already.
