Jalen deal looking pretty sweet right now. Sitting on 36% 3PT% (almost league average) at 8+ attempts (almost Damian Lillard volume). Someone who can do that for half a season is a great project on its own. Nevermind the main shot creation abilities and improving defense. Above average defender for the past 40-80 games. Only things missing is I definitely need him getting some more assists but I get that that will come with better shooting around him too. He needs easier and more reliable 3pt shooting around him, not a lot, just average. Outside of Sengun/Amen/Green we need elite off-ball shooting basically. The other thing he really needs to do is get to the line at least 6 times a game. That's a game changer and will ensure that his improvement is stable and cemented. We'll get a lot fewer ups and downs that way and his game desperately needs that. First Half: 21.5 points on 17.3 shots 4.4 rebounds 2.7 assists 4.1 FTA 43/36/88 splits 56.7 TS% Average to above average defense, a few bad games sprinkled Optimistic Second Half Targets: 23 points on 18 shots 4 rebounds 4.5 assists 6+ FTA 45/37/88 splits 58 TS% Above average defense, a few bad games sprinkled Don't get overzealous with your shot selection just because you're on fire, practice good habits I know it won't be consistent but a little more consistent than the first half would be good progress More Likely Second Half Averages: 24 points on 19 shots 4.2 rebounds 3.5 assists 5+ FTA 44/35/86 splits 56 TS% Average to above average defense, a few bad games sprinkled Slightly overzealous shot selection in the next 10 games It will be only slightly better consistency than the first half That would be pretty good going into one more summer of development (muscle and 3PT shot really). Please do not be expecting a 25+ ppg Jalen Green in this offense this season that wouldn't be efficient, he'll just tank his own confidence again when his jumper disappears. We need him to keep improving slightly each quarter of a season at a time (20.5 games) for a couple of more seasons from where he is at the halfway point of this season. We're just about on track with his development now. Future is looking great. I expect 25+ ppg and 5+ assists per game on above average efficiency points from him next season on a team with better shooting around him too.
Hell yeah. Hard to achieve but if you can get close, I've noticed your young players magically turn into stars in the playoffs.
Or just improves that euro step, just needs a little more diversity in his finishing you're right. I want him to work on the 3 and mid range this summer. Personally I'd like to see him largely shelve the midrange this season except when he's struggling and needs to get going (from the FT line) or if he's taking a bail out shot for us. Bring it back next season when he'll hopefully be putting the final touches on a solid jumper.
He needs to learn from Amen how to change direction after having gathered up the ball. Amen has insane body control. But Jalen's athleticism is no slouch. He can do similar things if he put his mind in working on it.
Funny you mention that, I think there are some finishing tips Green has definitely taken from Amen and vice versa. It's no surprise they are elite when starting together dating back to last season. They're 20-6 together against a variety of teams and usually in the face of injury. Both their stats mind-blowing in that span obviously. I think those 2 positions are locked for a long time (SG/SF).
Hey Nook, tell me the story again about how we don't have any franchise players on our roster. I love that story.
At least 2 is pretty wild no? Has any team ever had 3? The last team with 2 is the kd/curry warriors which ended 5-6 years ago. Before that was who? Shaq/kobe? It’s MUCH more rare than people think.
Agreed, but that's not going to happen. He is going to get better and better. Its going to be some hiccups. But he is getting there slowly but surely.
I had that thought but wade’s last year I would consider “franchise player” was 09, maybe you could stretch it out to say they overlapped for the first season they played together.
