Can we acquire another 5-6 APG (at least) player without giving up Fred in the deal?

Sharing the ball and scoring the ball........sorely needed.

Cam Whitmore is what you are describing. They just need to commit to him and take Holiday out of the rotation. The future is Amen, Jalen, Cam, Jabari, Sengun.

Cam is a great at driving close outs, as a finisher, and solid as a C&S guy, but he cannot run a PnR, bring the ball up, or be a creator of minimum viable offense in the halfcourt.

He just defaults to step back 3 or mid range when he has the ball in the halfcourt without an advantage. He is shooting ~33% from the field and ~26% from 3 on self created jump shots for his career so far.

It’s not what we want, nor is it productive developmentally for him or others to ask it of him.

Holiday is already almost out the rotation. I think he is still needed for 10 mins FVV sits down though.

Sexton can be had, but I doubt Bulls selling Coby, he's the last one Bulls sell. (After Pwill, Lonzo, Lavine, even Giddey if no re-up).

It isn't that Coby is untouchable, just that those are the guys their org look favorably upon and usually not moved unless severe overpay.

Equivalents are like Kings with Keegan, Pels with Herb Jones and Trey Murphy, Blazers with Sharpe, Wiz with Bilal. Good, but not stars. Room for improvement, but homegrown players that their respective org and fan base are super high on.

Udoka and Sexton is not a good marketing scheme for Landry’s seafood.

With how the Bulls operates and how Ainge operates, the asking price might not be as far away as their general trade market value haha

I’m very high on Reed, and I think the Rockets envisioned him being our backup point guard this season. But, he’s had chances and he won’t do what he needs to do. Reed needs to take the ball and dominate the offense the way he does with the Vipers. He just won’t do it.

Considering that we are still a very young team and unlikely to contend this season, I don’t want the Rockets giving up much for a backup point guard. If you can get one at a discount, then okay. But, I think the Rockets are still high on Reed, and considering that we can keep Fred next season if we want to, then I won’t be disappointed if we ride out the season with what we got.

I think you are underestimating Dosunmu and Alvarado a little bit--both guys aren't far off FVV's assist rate on a per-possession basis, and both have been on an upward trend with their playmaking over time. Alvarado's 3PM per 100 possessions is actually higher than Fred's this season, and is comparable to his best seasons as a shooter.

Dosunmu is a little bit of a different archetype, a combo guard leaning more toward the SG side. Bigger, more athletic, stronger. His defensive potential is higher as a result, and he's a much better rim finisher, but he's not the same type of floor spacer that FVV and Alvarado are. The fit is a little bit questionable depending on what you think his projected shooting is going to be, but he can definitely see the floor and make plays in a way that JG cannot.

With Brogdon, I think a lot of people are still thinking of him as the same guy from a few years ago who put up 21, 6, and 6, but I'm not sure he's that guy anymore at age 32. He's seeming pretty broken down lately. Would rather get a guy about to enter his peak years with maybe a bit more to unlock, but maybe that's just me.

Reed is the answer yesterday, today and tomorrow. He needs playing time to make it happen. Growth comes with pains.

Any significant upgrade will cost more than you're willing to pay.

This team needs growth of Jalen/Amen and for Cam and Reed to consistently play Holiday off the court.

I'd rather have a a guy like Holiday on a cheap contract play spot minutes while the young guys develop than invest in a more expensive backup that will require consistent minutes. I'm pretty sure the thought behind Holiday is that he becomes a Tate/Jeff Green role player that only plays with significant injuries by next year.

Reed will get his time. Ime probably hasn't seen what he needs to see in film room/practice to give him much time outside of garbage minutes. His defense has been much improved in the last few games he has played. There's 0 reason to ever play Holiday over him at this point though.

Dosunmus DFG% is among the worst in the league for players with at least 20 Games made.

So, I get the points about not wanting to take time away from Cam and Amen--but I'm more thinking about getting a guy who takes all of Holiday's minutes plus a little more. And I think most of that "little more" probably comes out of FVV 36mpg. We're still playing Fred far too often. That's where a guy like Alvarado or Ball really helps us--not just giving us a legitimate backup if something happens to FVV, but also reducing his injury risk in the first place by getting him down to around 30-32mpg. For all the talk about lowering Fred's minutes it hasn't really happened this season for the same reason I've been hammering over and over again in this thread--we're deeply reliant on his playmaking because we have no other options right now. We need to change that.

I don't really see it cutting into Cam's minutes, honestly--he can't play point guard at all, not even a little bit. As far as Amen goes, he's so versatile that I think we can have him out there 34mpg no matter what else we do, where there's a will there's a way with a guy who can legitimately play four positions.
