This is terrible. Way worse than what I was seeing for potential KD or Booker trades.

Curry is 36. We would have one or two years to try to win a title, and I still don't know if we would be favored against OKC, and would have mortgaged almost the entire future for that chance.

It does raise the question to me though- would you rather win a championship and then suck for the next 5+ years, or be competitive for years but never quite win it all?

 

The stark reality is "being competitive" counts for nothing. You might as well finish in last place. What counts is trophies, and they give those to the teams that win the most playoff series.

I like these Rocket players, and I don't like the idea of giving away the future (that is, future shots at championships), but I think this core group we have could compete, defeat the top teams, and win a championship if they had one more guy. We need a scorer/consistent perimeter threat and maybe a veteran who can bang with huge forwards.

 

I don't agree with the "championship or bust" kind of thinking. If the odds are evenly distributed, each team would win a championship every 30 years. What are fans supposed to watch for all those years in between?

You can't win it all every year. But a good organization should be competitive most of the years. The path to the title is as important as the title itself from an entertainment point of view.
