By the way, those picks are not very good. Maybe they'll be able to swing a big move, but I have my doubts. If they trade for Jimmy, that makes our pick this year a little less valuable and our future picks far more valuable.

How does it do anything to help our picks in the future? It does absolutely nothing but hurts their value. It gave PHX way more flexibility

PHX pushing their chips in this year - esp. for older players near the end of their career.

2025 will likely lose some value IF all Phoenix players stay healthy and they go deep in playoffs.

    But we have unprotected 2027.

So even if the get out of the lottery this year, they have to maintain their health until 2027.

They're likely to re-up Himmy at DA MAX = little wiggle room (prolly still over 2nd Apron in 2027 to boot).

But the question remains: where is Beal going? My $$$ is on Toronto

You don’t get how trading everything for a guy who has maybe two years left doesn’t help our future Suns’ picks?

Exactly….good for Phoenix that they desire to win a championship unlike our Rockets who are always on the sidelines when it comes to making the necessary move. Honestly, we are fools gold. Not much better than the Pistons and Blazers, but boy do our fans think by leaving everything “as is” we’re on the cusp of beating OKC or Denver in a 7 game series. I think I’ll put my money on Durant, Beal, Booker, Nurcic, and Butler over FVV, Brooks, and the rest of the crew. Let’s just wait it out as it’ll get easier the next few years….that’s the Rockets way!!!

Did you send this without doing the math? Those 2 years will take up the 2027 pick as well. So we will have what left? Maybe 1 good pick swap? At least do the math next time.

Yeah, I think you need to do the math. 2 years = this season and next.

They are discussing a 2 year extension for Jimmy and KD if the trade happens. That's been out there. Come on, catch up

Sure, I understand that. That’ll be a terrible contract the last year. He’s already slowing down.

You don't know that. Even if Jimmy is like 75% and so is KD that year they still have Booker. That alone makes them at least a play in team. It absolutely trashes the value of the 27 pick and all we have after that is the 29 swap. Sorry but this was absolutely terrible for us

lol whatever you say. If an old Lebron can't drag the Lakers into a decent season with a prime AD, old ass Durant and Butler aren't doing crap.

Anyone think this could be a way to trade their picks back to them in a KD or DB move, since they can send a pick back to us now?
    Maybe, maybe no.

Because they can now trade picks and swaps.

The rule is that you have to pick in every 2nd draft. Now they have picks they can trade over the next 6 years.

It's actually a really clever move for the short term.
Unfortunately their window of opportunity is not a championship one, so they are doubling down on a turd.

Even if they flip Beal for Butler, they are NOT winning it all.
They are still much better off tanking by flipping Durant/ Booker for assets and using their new picks to rebuild (before the 2031 pick they now owe!)

The Lakers are a playoff team right now. That would make the 27 pick outside the lottery. The Rockets made this trade assuming the Suns would have to blow it up BEFORE 2027. Now they will most likely do it after.

I don't understand why this is difficult to understand. The Rockets were counting on the 2027 pick to potentially be a high lottery pick. The trade today drastically reduced the odds of that happening

In a smart world they would. But they aren't playing smart. They are desperate and thinking they can win now.

If they offered us two trades: Booker, Jones, and another min salary guy for FVV, and Sheppard plus a swap of 2025 (they get the best) plus the 2027 and 2029 (best) pick.
And the 2nd being Royce plus a min OR just Grayson Allen for Whitmore OR Tari and Tate. That is possibly something we would consider.

That doesn't actually prevent them from trading for Butler, in fact it improves their chances, and lets them contend as best they can this year. It also gives them flexibility to build for the future AND 2 young talents to look at right now alongside.

From our point of view, we get Booker at minimal cost, a backup PG plus either another wing defender or a pure shooter.

lol. LeBron + AD >>>> than old Durant, Butler, and Booker. Not to mention if there’s an injury to any of them, that pick goes from lottery to 5.

Disagree. I think Phoenix is a dumpster fire. Durant and Butler if they did trade for him are both free agents after 2026.

My initial reaction is that this doesn't help our picks. PHX will probably do anything to keep their (our) picks out of the lottery until 2030.
