Ya man a think tank that tried to push privatization of everything is part of the conservative media machine. Its a literal conservative think tank. Conservative think tanks are notorious for laundering the concept of initial examples of think tanks that actually had sincere researchers but unfortunately their conclusions often sided with leftist narratives so conservative businessmen decided to launder academic research through bad faith think tanks that tried to show credibility through how think their stack of research was. This is a routine aspect of right wing conservative think tanks. There is no sincerity to them because their entire goal is convince Americans that privatization of everything helps them. Conservative intellectualism is held up by bad faith grifters trying to maximize their return on investment rather than seeking knowledge through sheer intellectual curiosity. Conservative businessmen underarms the core of their base are car dealership owners and crypto grifters. Hence try need some veneer of intellectual merit and they use think tanks to launder it.
I'd like to gain some muscle. I play tennis, but I haven't been lifting. My excuse is that I travel all the time, but it's just a lack of discipline. I don't consider "right-center" to be part of any machine, any more than a source that is "left-center" is part of the lefty/liberal/media "machine" I think a balanced news diet is more healthy than a non-stop, exclusive reliance on one particular ideological echo chamber. I read The NY Times and the Washington Post as carefully and thoroughly as I do Reason and the Wall Street Journal. I wish more folks here would do the same.
Pro publica has a left bias but I understand that it's motivations are based in sincere investigative Journalism because they are a non profit registered as a journalistic outfit. Reason is a think tank. Think tanks are structured purposefully to allow corporations and business leaders to fund "research" without it being obvious they are funding it. The National Immigrant Justice Center has put out a fact sheet warning its clients to “prepare for Trump’s mass deportation threats.” The ACLU observes that “Trump has repeatedly sought to rationalize his plans for mass deportation, blending military and national security rhetoric with xenophobia.” And Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, at a rally calling for Temporary Protected Status for Ecuadorians illegally residing in the United States, warned that Trump plans to deploy the “military to conduct mass deportations” of “those who serve as the backbone of our local economies.” “Mass deportation” is a propaganda term that does not describe the detention and removal plans of the new administration, and it is not used by Trump or his representatives. Mass deportation is the wholesale detention and removal of an entire community based on nationality, ethnicity, or some other immutable characteristic. For example, Stalin engaged in large-scale reorganization of the population of the Soviet Union based on nationality, beginning with the mass deportation of 170,000 ethnic Koreans from their home on the Sea of Japan 4,000 miles west to Uzbekistan. But the fact that illegal immigrants awaiting removal are here in large numbers is not a compelling argument not to deport them.
