Tired of Fairbairn missing field goals and extra points at key moments. Who are the best prospects for us to sign in the offseason or draft?
Care Bear needs to spend the rest of the winter in Canada or Greenbay getting in reps, then Argentina or Chile with the penguins and glaciers during the summer.
He can practice kicks on the beach too, Hawaiian beaches can get very windy. Wind is his kryptonite, he needs to conquer that ****
No one was calling for Fairbairn to be replaced after the Bills game. We can't let the moment overwhelm us. Fairbairn had a good year but, unfortunately, picked the worst time to have a really bad game. I'd place upgrading the kicker outside the top 10 - and maybe 15 - offseason priorities (and behind the punter). And I'll say one more thing in defense of Fairbairn: the offense HAS TO STOP making his field goals harder. His first miss yesterday was after a sack, which pushed it from a 52- to a 55-yarder. The block yesterday also came after a sack - though it was a 35-yard attempt. Point is, that happened *a lot* this year: the offense would go backwards and ask Fairbairn to bail them out. His shortcomings, I'd argue, are tied to the offensive shortcomings where they too often make scoring exponentially harder than it needs to be, and where, also much too often, they're settling for 3 and not 7.
We could do a lot worse but feel like we can do better as well. He had a rough game, he tends to have these every now and then, but overall I still feel like he is a plus on this football team. And yes, the offense could make it a little easier for him. Didnt he break the record for most 50+ yard field goals in one season? Thats the offense failing to keep the sticks moving - whether its lack of execution or safe play calling (because they trusted his leg).
This 100x. I don't see what is good about Townsend. I see other teams punters boom kicks down inside the 5. Literally every time we need Townsend to make a big punt for us, potentially change the momentum of the game, he screws it.
