The whole idea of that school has always been the antithesis of everything DeSantis stood for for decades before DeSantis was born. Of course he couldn't allow it to continue to exist - it is an affront to his worldview. If you aren't familiar with the school and it's history, this seems much more random and inconsequential than it it.

He's in the process of turning New College, which was considered something special and different for decades, into an extension of The Sarasota Community College system and he will be unironically proud of it when he's done. A Big Mac is SO much more Amurican and easy to swallow than a perfectly medium rare A5 Wagyu Filet Mignon. But Hey! They'll be ideologically pure enough for you Big Ron. Maybe they can start a D1 Football program and do something you can REALLY be proud of.
