Connolly bests Ocasio-Cortez in key vote to lead Democrats on Oversight panel

    https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5043016-connolly-ocasio-cortez-oversight-committee/

    excerpt:

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) on Monday claimed the first round of the two-step contest to lead Democrats on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee in the next Congress, besting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to win the recommendation of the Democrats' influential Steering and Policy Committee.

The 34-27 vote lends a boost to Connolly, the more senior of the two candidates, heading into a vote of the full Caucus later in the week. The Steering and Policy panel is headed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and is packed with leadership allies.

A vote of the panel — while essentially symbolic — also sends a signal to the broader caucus about which candidate the party brass deems to be stronger.

After a few more losses like this, given historic trends, she is an automatic lock for the 2028 candidate in the general election. Democrats love their losers

People are sick of her. She's a complete fake. If they run her she'll get destroyed like Harris. Still think they're going to run the other member of the the circus in Newsom

I really want to beat up AOC but Harris is still too fresh on my mind. AOC is qualified to run her district. That is about it.

I am still struggling with the the idea that there are people on these forums still defending their Harris vote. They prove my point - The will vote ANYONE with a D next to their name.

    state media not playing along

MSNBC’s Hayes blasts Pelosi’s ‘genuine madness’ for tanking AOC’s bid to be Oversight chair

    https://nypost.com/2024/12/18/media...s-for-tanking-aocs-bid-to-be-oversight-chair/

    excerpt:

MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes blasted former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., this week for using her influence in Congress to ensure that Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., beat out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., for the top spot on the House Oversight Committee.

Hayes used the example to criticize the older members of Congress for clinging to power instead of allowing the younger Democratic “stars” in government in more important roles.

“But now Pelosi whipped votes to make sure that Connolly got the Oversight job over the young star in the party, even as the 84-year-old Pelosi is recovering from hip surgery after suffering a fall. It feels like a moment of genuine madness,” Hayes said, referencing the recent accident and hospitalization Pelosi suffered while traveling abroad for work.

Hayes attempted to be sensitive about the age issue for older members of Congress but insisted that continuing their massive government roles while getting older is “very risky.”

pretty complimentary article, good news for Dems if she has in fact become a team player

gift article, link will work for everyone

    Is this AOC’s moment?
Democrats are split on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), but some say they’ll need her cooperation to help take back the House.

    https://wapo.st/40qHN4d

    excerpt:

Ocasio-Cortez, 35, didn’t apologize as she made her case to become the top Democrat on the high-profile House Oversight Committee. She did, however, tell her colleagues that she had “matured” and understood that a leadership role required additional responsibilities to support the whole caucus. She promised not to try defeating her colleagues. She’s a team player now and will help them win, she said, according to the two meeting attendees.

Ocasio-Cortez, who is among the most well-known Democrats and boasts a large and loyal following, has struggled to leverage her national prominence inside the halls of Congress. Some lawmakers are still resentful of her past divisive tactics while others harbor jealousy of the attention she receives, according to Democrats who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe party dynamics. But with the 119th Republican-led Congress gaveled in and Trump headed back to the White House this month, Democrats say it’s possible that Ocasio-Cortez, a common Republican foil, can leverage her national influence to become a leader in the party if she continues to build goodwill inside the Capitol.

“I think she’s proven to be really effective — just with her own megaphone,” said Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington), former chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and mentor to Ocasio-Cortez. “Now the question is, can she bring that into the party … in a bigger way?”

Have we learned something recently that makes a Harris vote over Trump indefensible? Or is your thought process here that Harris losing is reason enough that Trump deserved a vote over her (which, of course, makes no sense).

    How is she wrong??

You guys love to mock and just point and say “Liberal bad!!” but you never actually have anything to say about it. You just think people are stupid enough to think if I say someone who is a political threat is bad enough over and over then people will just go along with it.

So instead of posting your brain dead propaganda, tell me why AOC is wrong. Have some balls for 2 seconds and actually say something instead of trying to play the court jester constantly while insulting our intelligence.

Go ahead and post your meme and then your lol follow up because you know you have nothing.
