[Official] Reeko versus DreamShook Sabonis versus Sengun thread

Didn't someone say " If Sengun only reaches Sabonis level, he'll be a major disappointment"?... lol Wouldn't be a disappoint if your hope wasn't Wilt Chamberlain 2.0

Well...different stage of career

 

Sabonis TS% 67%
Sengun TS% 54%

Sabonis is clearly a lot better than Sengun right now. It aint even a question, Sabonis even shoots 48% from 3.

However Sabonis is also 28 while Sengun only 22. This shows the ceiling of Sengun is extremely high and he figures to be much better than Sabonis once he reaches his prime.

 

For me this isn’t a very convincing argument, because both players take very different shots, have different responsibilities, and face very different defenses.

Sabonis is closer to Steven Adams than Alperen Sengun. He sets awesome screens, DHOs well, and is a tough dude that is always in amazing shape.

If you call a play for Sabonis/Adams in single coverage (because they will NEVER be doubled) they will struggle. You can call an isolation for Alperen in single coverage against the best defenders in the world, as Udoka has done on many occasions. Apples and oranges.

By simple virtue of being one of the most double teamed players in the entire NBA, Alperen is on a different level, IMO.

I do think you could make the argument that Adams and Sabonis could make certain teams better as role players, but you better have stars that can draw double teams, first.

 

Sabonis is the worst defender on the team, Alperen is already defending smarter than him

 

I didn't know Steven Adams spots up for 3.

Here he is dominating Celtics big men which Sengun struggled against:


You act like he is Jarett Allen out there cmon man, he has post moves just like Sengun and also has 3 pt spacing which Sengun doesn't have. Sengun is better at defense and playmaking/court vision, but right now Sabonis is better at rebounding, shooting and scoring.

He can't score in isolation except when he backed down Cornet and scored on him 1on1, the same dude that dominated Sengun in their matchup.
