Wonder if two FRPs plus Cam or Reed would get it done. One problem is that I don't think he is good enough to be worth two picks that might be top of the lottery (i.e. the Suns, Nets 2027 picks). I think he's a good starter and would lock up PG for us after Fred leaves, but he is already near his ceiling. That type of player I think is worth multiple mid/late FRPs but not "teams tank just to get this" level picks like most of our near-future picks might become.
This is the guy I am keen on. Not a super exciting move, but should be cheap (could even be a buyout guy??), and provides solid vet PG play behind FVV this season, and an alternative option to FVV moving forward (ie, if we don't pickup Fred's option for next year).
I agree. I would love to turn Jeff Green + Landale into Lonzo Ball or Malcom Brogdon. We could go bigger and turn Green + Landale + Tate + Holiday into CJ McCollum I want to see how our guys handle being scouted and the pressure of the playoff atmosphere. This is probably the most excited I've been about our team since we first got Harden. I'm loving this team as is and I hope we resist the urge to go after an expensive "star". Homegrown teams are so much more fun to root for. And we can't take chemistry for granted.
So why hasnt Curry been an all NBA defender in his career? ??? Tate, Sengun and Jalen are the only holdovers from the Silas era. Tate was a good defender even before Ime arrived, he learned to play defense overseas. Jalen and Sengun only learned defense under Ime but they became good defenders cuz of their abilities and hard work. Cam Johnson would be a good get but not at the expense of Brooks and a lotto pick.
He's 1000 years old and has to carry an offense, nobody can do both at his age. Even lebron, the biggest freak in basketball history wasn't much on defense by that age
Curry has never been an all nba defender since he was a rookie. Age has nothing to do with it. You can teach defense but only to a point. Aaron Holiday for example wont ever be a better defender than Amen lets be real.
In the quest for shooting, why not ask W? They might want a pick. Maybe this is a slight upgrade. At least we might have a chance of having less turnovers. Washington: Brooks, Holiday Houston: Kispert, Brogdon
Landale+Whitmore+Holiday+Jeff Green+Tate all phoenix pick+future Rockets first+3 future 2nd rounders for Tyrese Maxey. FVV goes to the bench. He might not like it, but he can opt out in a few months if he desires Sengun/Adams Amen/Smith Brooks/Eason Green/Sheppard Maxey/FVV
Zion being back and Pelicans are starting to look decent again. They already are at the bottom of the West, so it makes a lot of sense for them to just tank. He is still somehow very good when he plays, even though hes really out of shape this season again. At some point we will need to increase our risk profile as Morey would say. I really like that his contract is non guaranteed essentially, but with a team option each year. I think we take a chance on him, get him out of New Orleans, keep him away from Shipleys and see what we can do. Still only 24 years old. Had 24/14/6 and 3 blocks tonight. I would imagine the price is fairly low on him right now, as Pelicans should really be tanking.
Think bigger guys. You want spacing? If you get a shooter at spots 1 to 4 you have a 25% chance of getting a perimeter defender out of the paint to create spacing. If you get a shooter at the 5, you're pretty much guaranteed to move one of the opponent's most important INTERIOR defenders completely out of the paint (the rim protector). This helps Amen and Green the most. They can just get downhill at max speed and not worry about slowing down or needing to eurostep for the layup. That's what Memphis/JJJ and Milwaukee/Lopez do for their shooting-challenged stars. Though these days Jalen is above league average for the past quarter of a season. Maybe there's growth there, as people have noted his FT% is way up. If you're getting a backup, it has to beat 6th man of the year calibre player to move the needle. Give me Vucevic please.
Memphis adding Gigi mid season is liking signing a top 6 player to your team mid season. Memphis is going to be tougher an deeper in the second half I think. Really want the Rockets to understand that they might be able to gamble 2-3 second round picks on attempting to secure the #2 seed in the West. A shooter and Jabari's return is all we need, very good value. Please don't do nothing. Jabari is a shooter who hurt his hand, you have to give him 1 month to get in rhythm I think. That means upto 3 months without Jabari. We definitely need a shooting big.
3 team trade: HOU - CHI - TOR (everybody stays under the tax level) CHI: Brown (TOR) + Tate (HOU) + $$$ from HOU & TOR + 2 SRPs via HOU + 1 SRP via TOR [protected 31 - 46] Moves off of Ball so they can climb further down & protect their pick. Tate prolly bought out to sign with a contender. 2 SRPs for Jalen Smith & 1 for Ball. TOR: Brooks (HOU) + Landale (HOU) 6-Gawd goes North. Landale is a nice contract. Get something of value & solid 3&D man in DB. HOU: Ball (CHI) + Jalen Smith (CHI) + Olynyk (TOR) + Craig (CHI) Improves 3 point shooting. Solid backup front court player on cheap contract. Another playmaker / offense initiator (besides FVV) who also plays D & uptempo. Backup big man who can shoot from the outside and is an adept passer. FVV - Ball - Holiday JG - Cam - Shepp Amen - Tari - Craig Bari (IR) - Jalen Smith - Unc Jeff Sengawd - Adams - Olynyk
The Suns aren't giving up their last tradeable pick for Landale and Tate. The only way they can make a trade for a difference maker is to trade Booker, Durant, or Beal. I'm not sure anyone is going to take Beal for a pick in 2031. They are screwed without trading Booker or Durant for expiring contracts that they can let go in the off-season to get under the 2nd Apron. It is the only way they can adjust their roster. It looks like to me they will stand pat the rest of this year.
I have three problems with acquiring Vuc specifically: 1) He sucks on defense. Significantly worse than Alpi or Adams. 2) He can't play power forward so he doesn't really help with our current injuries and it's hard to see him finding enough minutes to satisfy him. 3) The logical thing when adding him would be to give him Adams' minutes, but Adams is playing well and has established a good chemistry with our young core. I agree that more shooting in the frontcourt would be welcome, but I don't know if Vuc is my guy. Personally, I'm still looking at Chris Boucher as a guy who can play multiple positions, shoot the ball a bit, and (albeit inconsistently) at least plays some defense.
Dillon is an actual valuable contributor to this team. I don't think you can replace him even with all those four players you are proposing to acquire. I'm not saying Dillon is untraceable or a superstar, but just trading for a bunch of talent just because it improves 3 points is not worth it, when most of those players would play minimal minutes for the team. Defensively, you are giving up a lot as well. Craig would unlikely play. Lonzo would be a back up with limited minutes. Jalen Smith is an empty state guy. And Udoka would play Adams over Kelly every time. Kelly would find himself in a 10-15 minute role here if he were that lucky.
People love to hate on brooks just cuz he had a bad rep in the past. People need to move on from the past. Brooks is a hell of a player. One of my favs
