The bill proposes two key changes to immigration law. First, it mandates that Immigration and Customs Enforcement detain non-U.S. nationals accused of theft, burglary, shoplifting or larceny irrespective of their immigration status.

The second key provision of the act empowers state attorneys general to file lawsuits against the secretary of Homeland Security if migrants covered by the act are not detained. According to the bill's sponsors, this measure is intended to ensure enforcement of the first provision.

Securing the border and our territory is important but the Dems need to get something else out of it. Passing a bill right out the gate after an election for nothing doesn't seem like a winning long term strategy to me. Just read the new proposal and IMO giving AG's like Paxton more power is a recipe for disaster.

Can you tell me the consequcnes of not "securing the border"?

More terrorism? Higher crime rates? And then can you follow the answer with data analysis?

What does "securing the border" look like?

Do people want to be able to go to a 7/11 within a 5 mile radius and get some Mountain Dew Code Red and sweet chilli flavored Doritos at 2 am in the morning after riping a bong hit? THe treats economy relies on this "unsecure border". We can't get our Mountain Dew Code Red any time we want without exploiting migrants. Why do Republicans want to stop the treats economy?

Trump may need to leave Joe's policies in place to keep the numbers low.

Welker always looks like she's about to stroke out from internal screaming when a Republican she's interviewing is making good points

Permitting states to sure the federal government send the much bigger question mark. Also seems weird the bill is about DHS detaining thieves, but but not other crimes.
