Let me know when Florida stops taking federal disaster relief money or building on wetlands or building on the coast.

Also flood waters and strong winds recede naturally, a bit different than fighting a wild fire in a major urban area.

only to be schooled by CalMatters, the largest non-profit newsroom in California

Through the last century, the Southern California fire season would finish by October, sometimes early November. There have never before been such massive property losses as late as January.
unprecedented climatic conditions throughout Southern California led up to the disaster in early January 2025.

Two rainy winters — which promoted heavy growth of brush — have been followed by near-zero rainfall for the past eight months and counting.

Soil moisture levels across much of the regionhover between just 2% and 5% of average — leaving dust where there should be mud,

which enables air to draw moisture from the landscape.

also, an important measure called “vapor pressure deficit” has exceeded norms. Calculated from a combination of temperature and relative humidity,
it reflects the ability of air to draw moisture from the landscape.

Readings from Jan. 8 show an extreme deficit across much of inland Southern California. Such conditions can draw much of the moisture from living plants,
so fires become almost unstoppable once they start.

Im not blaming him for natural disasters I’m merely asking what his and the plan of those on the right is to deal with it, and the skyrocketing costs of insurance because of it.

Because all I hear is whining and moaning about culture wars as a distraction from actually having a plan. You are right that Trump isn’t president yet but he will be.

So what’s his fcking plan??? What do you want his plan to be or think it will be as a Trump supporter??

Stop whining like a 5 year old and come up with a plan that will save lives and lower the cost of home owners insurance and federal and state tax dollars.

Not blaming Trump for natural disasters but I am more than willing to call him and his supporters whiny b****es if they just sit and yap on the internet instead of having an actual plan to solve problems.

Stupid people start fires everyday all over the nation and planet

100 mph hurricane force winds during January in LA is a aspect of climate change.

Can I ask a very basic question without trying to sound patronizing?

What does temperature measures? What does "hot" or "cold" mean in terms of Newtonian physics? What is it measuring?

Great! This is a good opportunity for me to learn from you about what temperature measures. I have no shame in learning from my betters.

Exactly. Stop posting Catturd memes and actually tell us something of substance related to the topic. You guys on the right have nothing but memes, sh$tposts, and whining about women and black people who get hired for decent jobs. That's great that you have that part to keep you entertained, but it's not too much to ask every once in awhile to actually tell us what YOU, or your cleric Trump is going to do to actually solve the problem.

Tell us... enlighten us. We are the idiots just ignorantly wanting to solve problems. You guys and Trump are the experts. Teach us. Tell us your plan.

he didnt "blame trump". he asked what his plan is. also, trump has been blaming others and claiming he knows how to fix the issue. so whats his plan?

also, "guy isnt in office" and he is already talking about taking over greenland and the panama canal, taking credit for the truce b/t israel and hamas, taking credit for stock market gains, ect.

trump has been acting like he is already president since he won in november. and you see his cult going around calling him "president trump" constantly. last time i checked we only have one president at a time. he is still "president elect trump".

Democrat on LA City Council bashes city for prioritizing free crack pipes over funding fire dept

    https://nypost.com/2025/01/17/us-news/democrat-on-la-city-council-bashes-handling-of-fire-funds/

    excerpt:

A Democrat on the LA City Council is slamming “chronic under-investment” in basic services and fire prevention — even as Mayor Karen Bass has funneled money to providing drug addicts with free crack pipes.

The fury in LA Council member Traci Park’s voice was palpable as she raged against what she called years of poor financial decisions by LA city officials and how it’s come to a head with the catastrophic wildfires in her district, which includes hard-hit Pacific Palisades.

“It’s bananas,” Park told The Post. “The city of LA is in the middle of multiple crises: mental health, addiction, the homeless, infrastructure failures everywhere. We have pipes underground that are 100 years old and are just poised to cause an environmental catastrophe. Our sidewalks are cracked and falling apart all over.”

Park, 49, who was an attorney for 20 years before being elected to the council for District 11 in 2022, is a Democrat but hasn’t shied away from left-wing sacred-cow issues such as the vast and seemingly insurmountable homeless problem in her city.

“The fire department was decimated after the financial collapse of 2008 and it’s never recovered,” she said. “There has been a chronic under-investment in public safety here for years. It’s not just the fire department, it’s the police department as well. It’s not the fault of one mayor or one fiscal crisis. It’s chronic decades of underinvestment.

“We have the same number of firefighters and fire stations in LA in 2025 that we did in 1960. How insane is that?”

Since 1960, Los Angeles’ population has more than doubled — from around 6.2 million to more than 12.5 million today.

Activists angry over Park’s stance that homeless encampments should be 500 feet from schools and homes tried to interrupt her swearing-in ceremony in 2022. But the council member has been undeterred in calling out what she sees as wasteful spending in some areas and none in others.

“Last year, the LA Fire Department responded to over 500,000 emergency calls,” Park said. “Half of those calls were related to the homeless population. We haven’t added new staffing or even any new 911 operators. On an average day in LA we are not staffed adequately to meet demands.

“We have gone so far away from core services,” she added. “We are spending a billion dollars a year for the homeless and what is it getting us? It gets us ‘harm reduction kits’ so we are basically handing out free crack pipes enabling people to stay addicted and out on the streets rather than fixing our sidewalks and investing in our fire department.

“We are doing these free money giveaways and going down these crazy rabbit holes of supposed social service programs that have no real oversight or management and no effectiveness.”

OT, shame on you for spreading lies by that fish wrap
according to the fish wrap, Traci Park had said this.
Traci Parks criticism was about the # of fire stations; the dishonest fish wrap, thru sleight of hand, added "# of fire fighters)
Parks left out the details about the fire stations had been modernized / enlarged to accomodate more fire fighters.

fwiw, Traci Park had been a life-long Republican living in LA; she changed her political party affiliation to improve her chances of winning her election in LA
