??? Defensive guys dont get offered a lot. PJ Tucker for example. And Tucker could hit 3s as well as guard the opponent best player and be the defensive anchor of the entire team. Gobert is called overpaid for making the max when he is a multi time all star and DPOY.
The All-Stars and DPOY are in the past. I get last year was a pretty decent year from him and a lot of the other defenders were hurt (Hartenstein probably should have won it last season), but he's about 4 years removed from his peak and he's still being paid like he's in his peak. Gobert is overpaid.
That's because as he goes deeper into the playoffs Gobert becomes a liability defensively with how the game is played today. Guards actively hunt him down. Gobert is the most overrated DPOY. Amen is also not a soft 1 trick poney. I'd rather have Amen 100 days out of 100.
I agree but also tell me the last 12 ppg who made 40M in free agency. Thats not how players are paid. I guess Hartenstein got paid 30M for being a 7 ppg player but thats just OKC being weird and dumb IMO.
Amen is so much more than pj tucker. Dillion is pj+ and gets paid like it. Amen is the most athletic person in the nba or at worst top 5 at worst top 5 on defense. He isn’t bad at offense just can’t shoot 3s yet and has a bit of a loose handle in his second year. He is a hard working Ben Simmons and will get a max as soon as possible.
Amen might be worth a max when he is up for extension but not right now. You need accolades to get paid Amen doesnt have any yet.
It's a dumb move. Their 2nd most expensive guy is like their 6th best player or something. If we paid 30M for Hartenstein CF would riot.
We have alpy so ya we wouldn’t be happy, they have glass Chet so they need a real good back up. If they didn’t sign him they would have double the losses at least.

Tonight was a perfect example of Amen's PRESENCE being so important. You can put your fastest or best player on him but are your 2nd and 3rd fastest defenders capable of keeping up with Jalen if they're both running hard and not waiting for you? Impossible to bench Amen. Ime has to choose the better shooter between Brooks and Bari. Ben Sullivan or whoever is in charge has to do a better job developing everyone's 3PT shot (Sengun/Amen/Green). We'll get there slowly, they will collectively improve each summer for years.
