Add a guy who's 28 when all of our core are in their early 20s, and he's a legit star player, but he's not really playing like it this season and even at his best he's arguably outside the top 10... Man, I just don't know. Pros and cons. Can we get somebody who's a better player and/or a better fit with our timeline and roster later? Is it better to just run it back? Or are we already so good that adding a borderline top 10 player to the mix pushes us over the top into true contender status?
Booker is one of the more overrated players. Didn’t win **** until CP3 got there, swept last year first round, 1-9 this year without Durant. And I’m gonna make him the number one here? Stick with Jalen for now. Call me crazy but much rather make the shorter term play for Durant. Spoiler
The Rockets timeline may already have started. I'd say Booker is a fit with the timeline as it is tough to get better players younger. Getting a player later will miss this year as much as Booker will miss a later year being old. It isn't an either-or situation. It is as Joey would say, "Put your hands together."
i wonder how amen, booker and green would fit together. i don't really feel amen is a natural PG in the nba, in my opinion he works better as a forward, but booker is a really intriguing proposition, he's a very good player who's having a down year efficiency wise who can actually playmake a little bit. if ime sees a fit, i'm all for it. good thing we still have half a season to see if this jalen rise is a fluke or not, if he reverts to playing poorly i would be fine trading him + picks for booker.
I don't think the championship window truly opens until Alpi, JG, Amen, etc get some playoff experience under their belts. You're not going to win it all with a rotation full of guys who haven't even played playoff basketball yet. Probably they need to get bounced a couple of times before it's even realistic. So by then Book is 30, I guess?
This would be a great move! Book would give us that insurance in the 4th quarter when we sometimes go cold...they can have their draft picks with their choice of any combination of FVV, Tari, Bari, Cam, and Reed.
I would rather use the assets for a pg. green and Sengun are locked in with good deals. Probably bari and cam will be good contracts. A good pg and amen, we are set for years. let the current roster get playoff experience first. Too early to shoot for contention
If he is by some chance available at the deadline, it would have to be for FVV + picks + maybe one of the young core depending on what draft compensation is going out? So then I guess the core question is, what's better: a) Use up our cache of high-end trade assets right now for Booker, who is at the fringe of being "good enough" to make us true contenders, or, b) Hold onto our assets and wait for more of a sure thing, true top 5 player, which might not ever be available to us or if he is, we might get outbid by a team like OKC. It's a tough call.
I'm a little unclear with the vision here...unless the rockets don't like Jalen? What do you do with both Jalen and Booker? I don't think either of them can play the 1...and they're both kind of small to play the 3. Can someone smarter than me at basketball please explain? This really only makes sense to me if they get rid of Jalen, which I don't like.
I mean the short answer is no, unless you think Fox is available and you prefer him over Booker. So it's either trade for a second/third level star, or keep churning the draft picks until you find one through the draft.
I'm just not sure which team out there is seriously trading a top 5 super star. The last few guys who were traded like that absolutely were not considered top 5 talents when they were traded, like SGA and Harden. So if we're trading, it's going to be for a star, but one who we believe CAN be a superstar. The issue is, that's what our roster is. A bunch of kids who CAN be good, but we know for sure Devin Booker is good and can take a team to the finals. The question isn't really taking a 2nd tier star or waiting for a tier 1 star, it's trading for a tier 2 who can become tier 1, or hold the young kids we have and see if they become tier 1 or 2. But all these draft picks have to result in a star either through trade or development, otherwise we'll be a solid team who can't get over the top.
FWIW Booker is playing PG for Phoenix, and the offense has been quite good with him on the court despite having a pretty crappy supporting cast and KD being out half the time. Not saying it's optimal, but few things in life are.
Those young pieces come in the form of their draft picks. They don’t get to negotiate. They either accept or decline what we offer. We are the #2 seed with controlling interest in their upcoming lottery pick. Take it or leave it, chumps. We aren’t the ones that need to make this trade. We win wether we deal or not.
I don't think Tari is passing a physical so my best offer would be Reed, FVV, one 1st of their choice, and a 2nd to take on that contract of Booker's. In other words, it ain't happening.
