Does yacht rock just mean AM radio soft rock? Why a yacht? Who is on this yacht, the rich? Is Steely Dan considered yacht rock? I don’t like yachts in general. But I love Rock!!

Its music you listen to at your Yacht party. Is projects a "lifestyle image" - if you listen to it, you'd like people to think you spend lots of time at Yacht parties.

Steely Dan def. is not Yacht Rock. More like Jazz-Rock?

Fun fact - Steely Dan the name of a dildo in Naked Lunch by William Burroughs, written on prison toilet paper while going cold turkey off of heroin. Dildos, heroin, prison, and Naked Lunch are definitely not Yacht Rock approved concepts. Way too many jazzy suspended 7th/11th chords in Steely Dan. When you can afford a yacht, you don't have time for complex, jazzy chords.

Are there a few specific bands/groups - sounds that you like in Rock because that is a broad category.

Those in the Yachting level of Society aren't supposed to be doing this.

its been about 15 years, but those guys came down to austin and screened all the episodes on a boat that took us all the way up to the 360 bridge and back to town. my friends yacht rock cover band played on the boat too. we invited the main two dudes who played loggins and mcdonald to lovejoys (RIP) afterwards.

steely dan is yacht rock-adjacent. austins own christopher cross is definitely yacht rock and IMO this is the quintessential yacht-rock tune...

The story of him writing Ride Like the Wind on a drive from Houston to Austin while high on acid was crazy.
