Warmer climate leads to drier conditions on the ground during months when there isn’t precipitation, due to evaporation. This exacerbates fire risk.

Climate change is a background factor that shouldn’t be dismissed, because it can lead to all sorts of bad outcomes, not just more intense wildfires. Obviously there are more direct things Californians should do to mitigate the risk.

"Climate change" was not the reason these fires turned out to be so catastrophic.

Bad government on the local and state level was.

Drier conditions on the ground was certainly a factor. Didn’t say it was “the reason”. Lots of factors at play.

Likely illegals or could also be the usual suspects, regardless, looting represents the next challenge that LA will face. Liberals will turn conservative real quick when their family's safety and property rights are threatened.

you keep posting this one page jpg of a journal article. It's a really good jpg, and I applaud you for your perseverance, but my reading comprehension is terrible. Explain it to me like I'm five years old.

    you do understand,
    • from the research letter, "climate change suppresses the Santa Ana winds of SoCal",
    • from Brown's description, "On the meteorological front, Southern California recently experienced an intense Santa Ana wind storm, with widespread hurricane-force winds and gusts over 80 mph, , no?

"Climate change" is one of the largest grifts in history.

I'll assume this is directed at me

still foggy about your point. If you'll allow me to speculate about words in your mouth? since your bullet points are still disconnected from any kind of narrative structure:

    if

"climate change suppresses the Santa Ana winds of SoCal"

    and

"January chaparral fires are not normal"

    then

what exactly? climate change has actually made these unusual January chaparral fires better than they might have been? worse? are we supposed to be thankful for climate change somehow? or feel guilt?

    your meaning still eludes me

I’ll admit I’m not totally sure what the argument is, but I think it might be that research indicates wildfires will become more frequent during winter months due to changes in seasonality of the SAW caused by climate change?

No, I am saying that it's an oversimplification.

Climate change can cause LA to receive MORE rainfall in certain months and LESS in others. The net may be higher, but because the dry season is dryer and longer and hotter - it's a higher fire risk.

But what you can do to lie about that truth is just make the data into something else, by saying - hey - there MORE rain each year - never mind that isn't what this debate should be about.

If that's what the leftist local and state government believes, then they needed to prepare for it better.

if we go back to how this started, you quoted the City Journal statement about climate change and extreme weather attribution . . . "no basis in fact" etc.

    to which adieu posted
and in fact Sweet Lou comes to the rescue with the following

in so many words that's what the Brown pieces on twitter and City Journal also seem to me to be suggesting.

and as much as I'd love to keep playing Wordle with Adoo, I've got some errands to run. will check in later

So, these are beautiful coastal towns. Why can't they use water from the Pacific Ocean to help with fires. I suspect that salt is not good for the vegetation but all those people whose houses are burning down would prefer crappy lawn as opposed to a house being reduced to ash.

I do not know if this is feasible but would like to hear from someone on here with a bit of knowledge on putting out fires.

That's the science - if you feel science is a "leftist believe system? then I can't really help ya. There is a reality and that reality is indeed climate change has played a role.

In terms of preparing for these things better - sure - but what realistically can you do to prepare for a natural disaster in the age of smaller budgets? What specific preparation did they not have?
