Don't we have to move Pressly to do so?

I asked my boss if we can settle on a number, to avoid arbitration. He said we are definitely avoiding arbitration and that he already has a “nice round number” in mind.

    This is so exciting!

Not sure what you mean, he’s listed there and he’s already on the 40 man.

Sure. That probably doesn’t make him any money for his next contract though. I don’t think the Astros would go that direction, I’m merely pointing out an employer isn’t without power to sort of make your life suck if they decide you can’t be fired.

Similarly, having a reputation as a vindictive organization is probably not going to help the employer attract new employees in the future.

Depends on what you think of Salazar and who Dana's able to get in FA/trade with Caratini's money. Would you rather add an impact everyday bat like Santader and not worry about the if Diaz gets hurt scenario, or go with a lesser OF for a full season. My thinking is even if Diaz was to be injured Dana can trade for a Caratini/Jansen type catcher if need be.

Or he could trade for an outfielder later if need be. At worst it is six of one or half a dozen of the other and Caratini in the hand is better than Santander in the bush.

    Disagree with this.

Getting Santander and not having to give up prospects is big. Remember last year when there weren't any bats that were nearly as good as Santander at the deadline available in a trade? Odds of finding a catcher as good as Caratini at the deadline is much better than finding a bat as good as Santander at the deadline. Remember when Click traded for Vazquez at the deadline? I would expect Dana would be able to trade for a guy like this at the deadline IF Diaz was to be seriously injured.

Yeah, then other potential future employees see how management treated their past employees and they decide to go to work for someone else rather than sign on there.

I assume you were kidding but that would be an absolutely stupid way to handle the situation with Pressly.

Nook already said the Cubs broached a possible extension and there was no interest from Tucker’s camp.
